Would it make more sense for the topics under 'Usage' to be moved to a section more appropriate to the version being used, The section could then possibly be renamed to 'Version 2 or older Usage'. That way users are more likely to post in the section for the correct version, possibly saving them and others time.

One of the main reasons why newcomers post in the Usage Forum is the link to it on the Home page where it says:
Perhaps this could be improved to direct users to the best Forum, maybe by a list of links to the most popular Forums.Got a Question on using FH try the search option to see if it has been asked before, otherwise click here

Good Idea on the rename, I am always a bit wary of moving posts as this system does not leave 'breadcrumbs' to the moved topic, I have been accused a couple of times of deleting posts which have actually be moved to the correct forum.

Can postings be moved, and a new entry posted in the original Forum, with a link to the new Forum posting.

I would need to dig around in the forum script, for that and as the forums are written in perl it might take a while. I was thinking (when I get some spare time) about moving to a more modern forum software, but I need to get the scripts completed to convert all the existing posts over, I did a test run a while ago (http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/), but I need to check and validate everything and it would mean everyone having the passwords reset, as the current passwords are one way encrypted.tatewise said:

I was thinking that you could:
1) Move the posting to the new Forum using whatever method you do now.
2) Manually create a new posting in the old Forum, with the same Subject line, but with a link to the new posting.
i.e. 'Moved to {new Forum URL}'
I realise this would be owned by you and not the originator, but would that be a suitable 'breadcrumb'?
