Re: FHUG on the move

On a Windows PC there are some differences between Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge and Chrome.
( Possibly due to CSS differences, but I have tried Refresh on both browsers. )

Chrome has solid green background bars for each Forum but the posting icons are white and only appear with an orange background when the cursor hovers over them.

Firefox & Internet Explorer & Edge have solid orange background bars, but the posting icons are dark grey and turn orange with a light grey background when the cursor hovers over them.

There are also other minor style differences in colour and layout with Chrome always the odd one out.
Occasionally over the last few days I was getting that Chrome style temporarily in Firefox.

I was recently persuaded to swap to Chrome as DNA Painter and FMP Living DNA required Chrome and a couple of other reasons. This happened just before the recent changes to FHUG. However over the last few days every time I try to access the site I have to log in despite ticking remember me. Also just noticed a red warning triangle saying "Not secure".
Any advice would be appreciated please.
Ann

Ann,

As Jane is very busy this week, she's unlikely to be monitoring the forums which is why she has asked that problems be emailed to here on the admin@fhug.org.uk account -- anything reported here will not be dealt with.

When you do email her, can you include a screenshot of the red triangle, please. Also, can you try another browser and include the results in your email -- thanks.

Thank you for getting back. I think I might have solved the having to log in problem as I have re saved the new forum to my favorite's bar and having tried it a couple of times it appears to be ok but the "Not secure" has not gone away. I will contact Jane when she gets back.
Thank you Ann

Ann, send the email now -- Jane is looking at the emails and has somebody working on some of the problems so the sooner she hears about them the better. INclude details of the URL on which you see the warning triangle.

http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/posting.ph ... 32b#review

This is the URL but not showing the Not secure part at the beginning.
Sorry if I have made a mess of the messages but it would not do what I wanted and I am rubbish at doing this sort of thing.

No worries, Ann -- I'll do an email for you with that URL. I'm not seeing the same problem in Chrome... do you see it on any other web page? And is it only on that link on the FHUG website?

I do not see it on any other web page.

I had not noticed before but have been away for a couple of days and not been really paying a lot of attention just having a quite read of all the posts. It was this morning when I looked and noticed the Not secure part.
Sorry to be a menace.

It may be an issue with the url you're using -- can you prefix it with https:// and try please?

For people being asked to login repeatedly, can you check that your bookmark/the url you're using to access the site is consistent and prefixed with https://

Whenever I try and remove https:// or replace it with http:// and press Enter, it always reverts to https:// automatically in both Firefox and Chrome.

Mike, Jane's just made a change to force that... has it solved your need to login repeatedly?

All my Login problems were resolved by Saturday. I always use https: anyway.
I was just saying that if a bookmark happened to still use http: then FHUG appears to always convert to https: but maybe Jane had already made the change when I did the test just before I posted.

I spoke too soon earlier.
Now I cannot Login to the KB at all (similar to last Friday).
The Login dialogue says Sorry, username or password was wrong.
Does anyone else have that problem?

Does it need reporting to Jane, or is it just a temporary glitch?

It's working for me -- is anyone else having problems?

Mike, report it anyway just in case.

I can't login to the Knowledgebase either. Mac running latest Firefox. (Email sent)

I am back to my PC so I thought I'd test again. Everything looks fine in Firefox and IE. No buttons in Chrome although for me they also show up if I run my cursor back and forth over where they are (although they disappear again after I moved my cursor away).

As for the Knowledge Base, I am able to login without any problem using Chrome.

Jane,

I was just wondering. Is there any chance one of the customizations that was made to marina orange to enhance navigation might be made to the other skins also?

BillH, no doubt Jane will answer herself when she's less busy, but she's on record saying that she'll only maintain customisations to the marina orange skin to minimise the amount of work involved.

Helen,

Yes, I saw that. I was just hoping that maybe this one was simple enough (just links to home and the knowledge base in particular) that she might make an exception when her time frees up. It's not a big deal... I can always just have to two short cuts, one to the forums and one to the rest of the site. That is just not as convenient.

Thanks,
Bill

BillH, email the request to admin@fhug.org.uk to get it logged anyway.
