This morning I have been getting the following error off and on while trying to access the site.
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]
Too many connections [1040]
An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
Wasn't sure if this was something that you should be aware of or not.

If it happens again, please can you let me know what part of the site you were accessing (the URL would be ideal) along with the exact time you received the error, so I can pass the issue on to my ISP.

I occasionally get that too, so will provide similar feedback.

I am writing this on my Android tablet, on which all is normal. However on my PC (which normally remembers my login) I am unable to login at all. After entering username and password and clicking Login nothing happens. Not even an error message. At the foot of the Forums page I am listed as being online (perhaps because I am online on the tablet) but at the top right it says Login where normally it shows my name, and I am clearly not logged in on the PC. There has also been an intermittent display problem with Jane's picture icon which shows a black bar down each side!

Jane has updated the FHUG URL to use https instead of http.
So you need to change your FHUG Forum bookmark to get Login to work.
I discovered the same problem earlier.

With regard to the SQL error, my ISP tells me this was a database server error at their end and should be resolved so if anyone sees the problem again please let me know.

Jane,
I was just trying to access the main forum page. It hasn't happened again since yesterday morning. I will post the time and URL if it happens again.

Thanks Mike, I was getting a bit annoyed with my iPad.
It was made worse because not being able to login, I couldn't report the problem.
Note to Jane,
I know you have been changing servers etc, but could you please warn us first if you need to play around with the URL. It was made worse on an iPad, because Safari doesn't normally show either the http or https part of the URL!
It was only because my PC worked, that I was able to login and post this comment.

I have already posted a notice to this forum warning people to change their bookmarks.

Thank you Jane, but that message was posted after the problem had already occured.
As we couldn't login, we were not aware that you had posted a new message!
After giving us plenty of warning about the server change, I was a little disappointed you forgot to warn us in advance about the URL change.

But messages can be read without logging in, although the only clue that it's a new message is the timestamp.

Peter,
That only works if you are in that part of the forum. If the sub-forum title itself is not highlighted, to indicate it contains a new post, I won't bother looking in it!

In Jane's defence, we are all human, and sometimes make mistakes. I have made some real booboos.
I suspect it was not obvious beforehand that just changing the
http: to
https: would inhibit
Logins via
http:.
