So I thought it was time to put the lights up. For new members, please try not to break the bulbs as they are troublesome to replace

'Tis the Season. Nice. I broke a few, but, pro tip: refresh the page.

I didn't even notice them until my laptop started making awful noises, so now I've had a lovely time smashing them all! Sorry Jane.
Margaret.

My husband came rushing in asking if my new computer had broken because of the noises emanating from it. I assured him everything was fine as I smashed all the bulbs! My next task is to navigate through them without smashing them. Merry Christmas Jane and thanks for all your help during the year.

I wish they were optional because every year I hate them and the loud unnecessary noise through my speakers.
Sorry, I don't find them amusing any more.

My kittens hate them (it's their first Xmas). I have to remember to mute the tab every time I open it before I navigate anywhere -- but the cats will survive and so will I ; they're an Xmas tradition around here and I respect that (like I respect the fact that other people celebrate Christmas -- seemingly starting around August -- but I've never seen the point).
I just wish I could find a way to always mute named sites -- not just for FHUG but also for those sites that insist I enable ads to view their content and then spring noisy nonsense on me as I scroll past it.
ETA: If you use Chrome try the extension Mute Tabs by URL -- peace now reigns in my study. I would suspect there are others for other browsers.

I too don't like the sounds anymore. I use Chrome and an extension called Disable HTML5 Autoplay. This stops all the sounds also. It is also nice for stopping videos from automatically playing on web sites. It can be turned on or off on each web site.

In Firefox right-click the tab and choose Mute Tab.

There is a Mute Tab option in Chrome as well, but it only works for that tab and mutes anything in that tab even if you change to another web site.

I seem to remember that the light bulbs are a game and that I used to play it at Christmas ? To distract me from the cooking. Instead of patience!
Is this so Jane? And if so could you please re-post the instructions.
My previous attempts to master FH must have coincided with Christmas.

Can't remember a game, other than I think the challenge was to avoid hitting the lights.
To turn off the smashing noise
Click here and select OK for sound off, Cancel for Sound On
Click OK to turn the sound off and cancel to turn it on.
