Not sure if this is related to the upgrade, but here goes...

If an attachment file is too large the Error message just says File too large.
Is it possible for it to say Maximum file size 256K instead?

I know the Forum Usage Guide (4252) mentions that maximum, but it would be more user friendly to tell users the limit in the error message, so they can immediately resize their image correctly.

Jane, I have noticed an unexpected effect when editing the Knowledge Base pages.

Having edited a page and used Save the editing buttons are temporarily withdrawn for that page.
But if the page is closed and reopened the editing rights and buttons are restored.

One might think that a Log Out has been performed, and close the Knowledge Base pages.
But on later returning to the Knowledge Base, the editing rights are still enabled.

It is quite annoying when making multiple changes to related pages.

I am not seeing that effect at all, even editing one of the pages you recently updated the edit buttons are there when I return to the view page.

I have not made any changes to the Knowledge base, only to the Wish list code and the Forums which are separate.

That is very strange, as I cannot repeat the problem now either.
It was particularly associated with the Plugins Help sub-pages without the sidebar, and I had been using the Media upload.
If it happens again I will let you know.

If I am NOT logged into the Forums, then it affects KB Edit as described.
Has it always been that way?
Or is that a new 'feature'?

Hi Jane, have you done anything to fix that KB Edit problem, because it seems to be better now?

A similar problem I experience is at the initial Tools > Log In to the KB.
During the Login dialogue the Edit option appears in the toolbar.
But on completion that Edit option disappears from the toolbar as if Login had failed.
However, if the KB page is closed and re-opened the Edit option appears in the toolbar indicating the Login had actually succeeded.
It does not seem to matter whether I am logged in to the Forums, but also it does not misbehave 100% of the time!

I have not changed anything specific, but there is a "loose coupled" relationship between the KB and the Forums, in that the KB validates the user again the forums for permissions. So it's possible not being signed into the forums could mean I am not getting the correct settings back. Have you tried setting the Forums to "Remember Me" does the Knowledge base now behave as you expected?

Sorry if this is totally irrelevant, but I did notice a slight problem just with logging in to the forums. When I first accessed FHUG after the changes (when I was away for over 6 weeks), I could log in easily, because as previously my username and password had been remembered. But when I logged out, and later tried to log in without having left the Forum page, my details had vanished. They reappeared if I went back to the Home page and then to the Forum page. This behaviour persisted for several days, whether or not I ticked Remember me. It was only when I typed my details directly on the Forum page drop-down that they were remembered for future use (without having to revert to the Home page) even though I did not then tick Remember me.

What browser and settings are you using, because typically login particulars are remembered in the browser.
But they are only remembered against particular prompts, and so if a different prompt dialogue is slightly different it is not auto-completed.
With Firefox it asks whether a new password is to be saved, but other browsers may be different.

Browser is Chrome and it usually asks whether to save the password. It didn't ask when I input the password as described above, presumably because it is already saved.

Another explanation is possibly to do with FHUG Cookies, as described in info:cookies|> Cookies In Use on This Site, and perhaps Jane can add further details.

BTW Jane: Under Turning Cookies Off it says (Learn how here) but there is no hyperlink

I no longer seem to be able to login to edit the Knowledgebase (I have tried both email address and nickname) and there is no where to ask for a new password in case you have forgotten it.

You are in the WikiEditor group, your id and password are the same as that for the Forums

Thanks Jane I went to the Wiki this time and found I was logged in and could edit as before.

I am not sure why I had the initial problem. Maybe you accessing my account was what did it?

Colin, you are experiencing exactly one of my problems, that the Edit buttons do not always reflect your Log In state.

But closing and reopening the KB Wiki shows you were Logged In all the time!

Mike mine was slightly different in that I was logged out of the Wiki as under Tools I had the Login option not the usual Logout option (when I am logged in).

Yes, it goes consistently together:-
You use Tools > Log In and while entering Username and Password the Edit option appears in toolbar.
But on completion, the Edit option and Edit buttons vanish, and the Tools > Log In option still exists.
Close and re-open KB Wiki and all the Edit options and the Logout option appear, without having to Log In.

AH - yes so it was the same.

Upgrade to 3.1.10 applied. There were no changes to the theme so everything should hopefully be the same.

I just noticed today that my signature has not auto posted on a post I replied to. It is enabled in my profile settings. Let's see if it was JOOTT on this post or if it is an issue with the update and the pro silver skin.

If you are referring to the topic about the webinar in the News and Announcements forum, it looks as if Jane's is the only signature that appears there. Posts to that forum have to be approved by a moderator before they are public, so maybe that process somehow strips out the signature (even if it is a mod's signature!)

That Forum does not support a lot of things such as BBCodes, Smilies, Attachments, as well as Signatures, etc.

Not sure why Jane has switched them all off. It regularly catches me out when I try to use BBCodes.

BTW: I notice the moderator approval requirement has been removed.

I think I have found the setting for BB codes on the News forum. The Forum has a custom permissions set as I don't allow general users to post new topics there, which means by default everything is turned off.

Jane, that seems to have switched on BBCodes and Smilies Ok, plus there is a tick option at the very bottom for Attach a signature as usual.
