Upgrade to the forums
Over this weekend I will be upgrading to the latest version of the forum software.
Please note this may mean the forums will be off line or "unpredictable", but hopefully everything will be back to "Normal" fairly quickly.

Re: Upgrade to the forums here
The upgrade seems to have gone OK.
A few things have moved around in relation to the position of some options. Mainly the View Lasted posts and unread items are now under the quick links button top right
If any thing looks a little strange, please press the F5 key on your web browser to refresh your browser.

Front page is looking a little odd, even after clearing browser caches...

Re: Upgrade to the forums here
Thanks Helen
Just spotted the problem.
I've patched it a bit, and will work on it now, I knew I would forget something.

Re: Upgrade to the forums here
Generally looks good.
The larger font is easier to read, but there is less visible on a page.
Can the Closed/Locked Forums be placed below their active Forum as they were before please?
Otherwise, especially new users, will be confused where to post for FH V6.
e.g.
V2/V3/V4 Usage
The Lost Posts Archive
Closed Wish List Requests
Gedcom Census (closed)
BTW: Why are BBCodes and Smilies OFF in this 'News and Announcement' Forum?

I have moved the topics I have smiles and bbcode so I suspect it's a permissions thing. Do you have them in other forums ok?

Re: Upgrade to the forums here
Yes, I have BBCodes and Smilies everywhere else OK.
I think it has always been that way.
BTW: I have to Approved every Reply I make here too.
One other thing I have spotted that is missing.
The * shortcut on posting headings to allow Ctrl-C to create a link to a posting has vanished.
Also the associated 'topic' and also the 'kb' menu items are well hidden, although still actually present if you hover to the right of the colour picker icon.
!!! Don't know if it is related, but I cannot now Login to the Knowledge Base to perform some updates. It was OK yesterday.
In other words my wikieditor and wikimanager membership appears to be ineffective although listed in my Profile.
Finally for now, can the' Members' list be initially sorted on one of the columns?
It always has been, and still is, random initially, but perhaps better is sorted on 'Username' or 'Joined'.

I don't seem to be able to find the option to change the theme. I am a dinosaur and like the original theme. Is it still available?

Re: Upgrade to the forums here
The answer is no, you can't revert to the original theme as it isn't available in the new version of the underlying software (which was also upgraded this weekend to maintain supportability). I know Jane looked at the options but it wasn't possible. (I suspect although she hasn't said that it was a fair amount of work to achieve something that looked broadly similar).

I'll leave it as normally the News area is locked to Admins for new posts. I have moved this post to user group so you can use your smiles and bold if you must.tatewise wrote:Yes, I have BBCodes and Smilies everywhere else OK.

Not sure about this they always appear in Joined date order when I open the list, it's just the imported ones from the begining all have the same date and time give or take a bit. Finally for now, can the' Members' list be initially sorted on one of the columns?

I suspect it's a change in the phpBB user validation routine, I will have a dig around in the Wiki Validate code for the inherited groups, I am off out in the sunshine for a bit now, but will look later.!!! Edit: I think it was just a missing file which I have restored from the previous version and seems to be working for me. You might need to log in to the Knowledge base again.

The member list has always opened randomly sorted for me, but it's only a single click to resort it so it's not a real problem. Finally for now, can the' Members' list be initially sorted on one of the columns?

Re: Upgrade to the forums here
If we can't have the old theme back can we at least have some choice? There are over 200 themes available according to the phpBB website. I am not asking for all of them but one similar to the old theme instead of this one would be great.

Yes, all problems fixed - thanks Jane.
On closer inspection the Members are listed in Joined order, and a single click does sort OK, but listed in reverse Joined order or alphabetic by Username is often more useful.

Re: Upgrade to the forums
Valkrider/Colin, Jane has turned on the Pro-Silver Theme (totally un-customised) so you have a choice -- but any changes made in the main theme won't be reflected there.

Mike, a simple click on any header will sort items in the order you want or (toggle) resort them in reverse order.

Re: Upgrade to the forums
When using the Move topic option, the Leave shadow topic in place used to be ticked by default, but now is not ticked, which runs the risk that no breadcrumb trail is left for the original user.
Can that option be ticked by default please?
