Browser icons & text difficult to see

Post by ColeValleyGirl » 14 Oct 2013 14:05

Ron Saban said in topic Back up (10820)
In FHUG the icons and subject matter are in a light brown which is difficult to see; is there any way that I can turn it to black?

Ron,
What browser are you using?
if it's Firefox, there's an add-in called No-Squint which can automatically adjust font size and some colours for you on this site (or any other you use). (Another task for your Grandson?)

I don't know if there's anything equivalent for Internet Explorer.

Thank you very much Helen. From what you say Firefoxt could be a great help to me.
I am using Internet Explorer; I went into Google and found that Firefox can be downloaded for free. Will it cause me any problems with emails or FH?
I am sorry to be a pain but I am concerned that swopping over to another browser may cause me more problems than I have at present.

Ron,
It shouldn't cause you any problems with emails or FH, but I suggest you get your Grandson to install it alongside Internet Explorer (plus the NoSquint add-on). You can use IE and Firefox in parallel (although you have to chose one as 'default') -- I suggest you experiment with Firefox and switch over when you're happy.

You will be fine with Firefox as I use it as my preferred browser all the time with FHUG and E-mail, etc.

Firefox and Internet Explorer will co-exist quite happily.

The only thing that might need Internet Explorer is Microsoft Windows Update but will usually do that automatically.

The other thing that you can do in most current browsers is to press the

Ctrl key and + it will make the font larger

Ctrl key and - will make it smaller

Ctrl key and 0 will revert to the website defaults.

This works with Internet Explorer. Personally I use Firefox but this trick may allay some of your concerns and mean that you don't need to change anything.

The CTRL +/- & 0 key options also work on Chrome

Hello Helen
Unfortunately for me, my grandson has not been in contact (too much football and too many girlfriends !!)And so regarding Firefox I went to BT help line and they have installed it along with the 'no squint' which is represented by + and - on the toolbar. However, I cannot see it on FHUG and cannot see the colour changes you mentioned where I may be able to change the brown in FHG to black.
Could you also explain to me what to do about the 16 GB USB Flash Drive that I have purchased for saving the FH Extra Large Book that Jane sent me and for saving back up charts?
Thank you
Ron

Sorry to be a nuisance Ron, but could you keep this topic to browser squint problems, and post your USB backup queries to the Back Up (10820) topic.
Otherwise it gets very difficult for someone else to follow the dialogue.

It is me who should be sorry Mike, I do get so carried away, there is so much to learn.
I will try to behave myself in future

Ron,
If you have No-Squint installed, you can right-click with your mouse where on an FHUG window and you will be offered No-Squint Site Settings as an option.Click on that and you'll see this:

This shows the settings I've got, but you can adjust to suit yourself. The only thing you can't adjust is the little icons at the bottom right of the posts.[/size]
