Copying Sources

Post by IainA » 16 Jan 2012 13:01

Does anyone know if it is possible to duplicate a source automatically?

Some of my sources are quite lengthy but are a standard format and it will be less time consuming if I could duplicate a source and then edit it slightly, rather than type all the information again, a lot of which is the same.

Thanks very much for any help with this.

Kind regards

Iain

In FH, Records cannot be copied, but Fields can.

There are some Wish List entries for features that would help - you could vote for them:
See Ref 462 Default Source Record Field Values at
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldispl ... lwlref=462
See Ref 351 Template when adding records at
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldispl ... lwlref=351

I presume it is mainly the Text From Source and perhaps Note fields that need copying.
You could simply Copy & Paste fields from a Source record set up purely as a Template but never actually cited.
Alternatively, there are free utilities that allow text strings to be associated with keyboard shortcuts.
With some, the shortcuts are only active in certain applications, so could be dedicated to FH.
Just Google AutoHotkey and PhraseExpress for details.

Thanks for that information.

I wanted to actually duplicate the entire source which would include everything within it. I use templates in my sources and this would need much less typing of duplicate data. It's a shame this facility isn't included in the software.

When V5 is released you could easily do this with a plugin.
