Bother with flags

I have about 16 flags. They all show in Edit>Flags. They all show in Tools> work with lists & flags and are set to always show in lists.[EDIT] also in columns in record window.
Half of them (those from a past time) did not show in the diagram>options>boxes to allow icons to be linked.
I went to the file Flags.fha and noted that the missing ones were not listed. I added them and increased the index quantity double checking the typing.
Saved the file and checked the extension was correct.
Restarted FH
No change. I cannot add icons to some.
Any help please.
[EDIT]I also have a dummy person with all flags ticked.

Personally I would always avoid editing any of the parameter files manually.
I suspect you may have edited the wrong one, or are on Windows 7 and it saved the file somewhere else with out telling you.
What I would try is de-selecting the Always shown on all your flags and add them again and then restart Family Historian to see if they 'stick'

That did not work and the file was in the right place but I must apologise for my aged memory.
I clearly forgot that in Diagram-options-boxes; despite already having a 'condition' entry for Record flags in the list, I still had to add the condition again in order to then add a single flag. I am afraid looking at the buttons it was not obvious after a lapse of time, to use that for both the initial condition of adding flags per se and adding individual flags each time.
In future I must press every button before asking.

If in doubt, first read the
Help available via the
Boxes tab
Help button:
If you wish to have multiple Record Flag conditions, click on Add Condition repeatedly to add as many Record Flag conditions as you wish. Even if you have added conditions for several record flags, there will only be one Record Flag condition mentioned in the Conditions list.

Thank you very much for that enlightening comment.
The difficulty I believe, was deciding what to look up and where.
Having made a decision to use the Help file under the Help>FH Help and not finding the answer, then trying the How To's then trying 'Getting the most...' and failing, then with hindsight, your comment is the correct answer... and I didn't think of it, or come to that, even notice the Help button... in my desire to find the reason the flag tabs were not present.
Again, with hindsight, I will probably now unless I forget, always look for a Help button where the problem occurs; which is now... fairly obvious and I should have seen and done that in the first instance.
The moral... stop, look, think.
