Individual Properties, Spouse Citation missing

Post by donone » 18 Feb 2012 11:23

I set source and citation for an individual who happens to be a female spouse.
When I view that individual the source and citation show in the sources yellow window.
When I make the male the active person the sources and citations do not show for the spouse when birth etc. are selected by mouse.
i.e. the sources/citations only show when the person is active not as a spouse.
Is this correct, because I cannot understand that the entry would have to be made twice for the same thing?

They don't have to be the focus person, but you do have to click inside the fact for the source to show (i.e. click on the date or place for the spouse fact to see your source citation)

That is what I expected and that is what I did. I click birth date box for example as the focus person and all is well but when the person is the Spouse and I click the same boxes it does not show, any clues please as to what has gone wrong.

The actual facts are baptism and burial I don't yet have birth and death.
This is happening on the Main Tab obviously and not the Facts Tab

[EDIT] When the person has focus and the Baptism is clicked the Source window 'Sources for' says Baptism with *. The Fact Tab shows Baptised in...
The same box does not list Baptism when the person does not have focus even though the fact baptism box on the main tab has the date.

The only time you can view Focus and spouse facts together is when you are on the {Main} tab. The only facts viewable this way are 'Name', 'Birth', Death' & 'Marriage'.
The {Facts} tab only ever shows details of the focus person or joint details from the point of view of the focus person.

Thank you, it is reassuring that nothing has become unlinked.

The key point is that the Main tab is a summary of only some of the Facts.
There are more Facts shown by default for the Main individual at the top, than for their Spouse at the bottom.
(You can change that by Customising the Main tab Spouse section to include the extra Facts if you wish.)

The best place to view all the Facts is on the Facts tab.
This lists many more Facts than could be squeezed onto the Main tab.
Some types of Fact will also be listed more than once.
For example someone may have several Occupation Facts recorded, but only the first one appears on the Main tab by default.
(Again you can Customise that too!)

Again, a wealth of information. Thank you all for your guidance, which makes the program more enjoyable to use.
