PDF Output not enabled (again)

DF Output not enabled when SAVE DIAGRAM AS...using W2K3 and version 4.1.3

This used to work but not now. I've reinstalled (over the top) old version 4.0.2 which reinstates Nova PDF 6.1 and a printer and all works.

When I upgrade to 4.1.3 the printer disappears.

I seem to remember both 6.1 and 7 showing at one time?

Anyway...how to get PDF output enabled again in 4.1.3?

This matter is now frustrating me a lot.

I've now upgraded to V5 which did not fix the problem (there is still no PDF printer).

I've also tried to uninstall V4 and Nova 6.1 then install 5 only but again no PDF printer appears (and no Nova in installed programs).

To add to my previous post, my event log clearly shows the PDF printer being deleted when the 4 to 4.1.3 upgrade was performed.

So now I've lost all my customisations - great !

I'm now going to uninstall all then install 4 but no 4.1.3 upgrade then install 5 upgrade.

Why am I having to do this?

Version 5 upgrade also deletes the PDF printer set successfully by up by 4.0.2.

I uninstalled everything. When I installed 4 event log says (twice in 2 seconds):

Printer Driver novaPDF 6 Printer Driver for Windows NT x86 Version-3 was added or updated. Files:- novaprk6.dll, novauik6.dll, novaprk6.dll, novak6.chm, novaclk6.exe, novaemk6.dll, nvimgk6.dll, novak6.ctm, novak6.clg, novak6_en.lng.

When I installed the V5 upgrade event log says two events (1 second apart):

Printer Family Historian PDF File is pending deletion.
Printer Family Historian PDF File was deleted.

How can this problem be avoided or worked around?

When you say you are using W2K3, I assume you mean Windows Server 2003? The requirements for Family Historian list Windows 7, Vista and XP but not any server operating systems, although the Nova PDF does suggest Server 2003 is supported.

I'd suggest you contact Calico Pie who produce Family Historian: support@family-historian.co.uk

Have you tried uninstalling everything and then just installing the version 5 upgrade? Apparently you no longer need to have version 4 installed first. In the Knowledge Base it says:
Unlike previous Upgrades, the Upgrade V4 to V5 product does NOT need the preceding Versions to be installed. It only needs the Upgrade V4 to V5 Licence and the previous Full V4 or Upgrade V3 to V4 Licence details to be entered.

Thanks for reply:

1) Yes Win Server - worked fine previously
2) Calico already copied on these posts
3) Clean V5 install also tried already

Although the PDF printer was uninstalled, I note 2 ports still exist for each of Nova 6 and 7. I'm trying to delete everything but one 7 port will not go...

...I am 'guessing' there was a change from nova 6 to 7 between FH versions 4 and 4.1.3. I think residual stuff is stopping nova 7 being installed.

To delete the port you could run regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentcontrolsetControlPrintMonitors and then delete the key for the port. You may need to restart the printer spooler service afterwards for it to disappear.

Solved.

Yes that's actually what I was trying next, I also deleted other stuff and all the old NOVA files one of which was locked (so in use). A clean V5 install then worked.

I suspect, FH was not managing to install the printer due to port remnants from previous installs.

Now I need to try and remember then re-do my customisations.

Appreciate your help.
