As a matter of interest, has anybody who downloaded V3 received the free V4 upgrade yet?

The Family Historian Sites say they will be released by the 15th May.

Are they not being rolled out over a period of time?

The http://www.family-historian.co.uk site says:
'Customers who purchased a licence for the download version of version 3 since November 26th 2008, will be emailed a link for a free upgrade to version 4. For technical and logistical reasons, we regret that there will be a delay in sending out these emails. We hope to have all such emails sent out by May 15th. Customers in this situation are not recommended to download the free trial version of version 4, while waiting for their free upgrade - see Can Existing Users Install the 30-Day Trial? for details.'
so I don't see any mention of them being rolled out over a period of time.

I think it is horribly frustrating and pretty bad form that v3 users have to wait this long for their new registration keys. Especially as there is no explanation as to why. Surely it can't be hard to generate the keys and do an e-mail mail merge...
It doesn't sound like the way to treat a customer. I suppose once they have your money, why should it matter....
Shame, considering I actually like the software, even if the customer care stinks. [frown]

Look on the bright side - while you have been waiting for your email they have fixed a number of bugs in v4 and released an upgrade (v4.0.1).
Being first to upgrade isn't always a benefit.

I am still waiting patiently for the free V3 to V4 upgrade. I know it is not the 15th May yet, but it is close. Has anybody received the free V3 to V4 online update yet? Or am I one of the last users to receive the upgrade?
I have a massive paper file that I want to load on to the new version in time for a family get together.
Just biting my nails.........
PyreneesPirate [confused]

I agree with some of the previous posters in the fact that it's terribly bad customer service to promise an upgrade, produce the product for sale to NEW customers immediately while the installed base is left hanging. Seems like bait and switch to me.

PyreneesPirate,
While I have some sympathy with your frustration, is there any reason why you cannot at least make a start by entering your data using your FH3 installation? The data will then be in your Gedcom file ready for FH4 as soon as the upgrade arrives.

Hello PeterR,
Thanks for your input.
Have been saving up this file for a while now in anticipation of testing it with V4, so would prefer to use it with V4 to see how it stacks up. I am sure that you understand.
What is a bit puzzling is that some people seem to be using V4 already and it's officially on sale, but there are others that have purchased on the understanding that the upgrade was going to be delivered in February and are still waiting or is it available and have I missed the link?
Perhaps somebody who is in the know can post something to clarify.

Keith_r59 states that there is a version 4.0.1. Can someone tell me if this is so, why can I not find any reference to this in the web site and why does my copy of FH tell me that I have the latest copy with 4.0.0
Thanks[smile]

I believe v4.0.1 is not yet formally released, and so not found automatically or advertised on the website. SimonOrde's post part way down this page: http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... 7&start=60 explains where you can find it, and the Learn More link summarizes the improvements.
