Is there a date for the FH v4 release? February is a bit vague and I am impatient to try it out!!!!!

Me too, I'm getting very impatient, but I'd rather wait until it is perfect (or almost) rather than have to keep down-loading patches.[dancing-banana]

Hi, I'm new here and to family research. Looks like family history is the best software around? What are the advantages (if any) of downloading against buying the disc's?

Unless you are in a country which it's difficult to buy the disk there is no difference I am aware of between the download and the disk.

There is a subscription deal in the latest Your Family Tree which includes FH3 in a year's subs!

Think the launch has been delayed to March - from the rootsweb forum for FH where I am sure I have seen Simon apologising for this... but then something good is best waited for

Can you give us a link to the Rootsweb FH forum? I can't find it.

The rootsweb mailing list is the official channel and is meant to be for beginners to ask questions, they prefer conversations not to get technical or theoretical or too argumentative, whereas this site allows discussions and a many arguments regarding Family Historian as we like so personally I don't use rootsweb list as it isn't really aimed at the experienced user.

I agree with Nick -- it is much easier to discuss things here.

That said, I read the Rootsweb mailing list via digest, just to keep an eye on what is going on there.

Calico Pie do monitor the activity here as well as the mailing list. The mailing list is administered mainly by Simon of Calico Pie, but as Nick says due to it's nature it's better suited to quick question and answers, especially as several times in the last few months the mail has got stuck.

Many of the more experienced users are both on the list and here on FHUG so a question in either will normally get an answer fairly quickly.

IMHO the big advantage with this forum is that you can search them easily to check if someone has already asked the question where as the Mailing List archive is only searchable by year.
