It would be nice if FH supported GIF images as it is a format used frequently by many genealogy websites for displaying scans of archival material. Currently you either have to accept that FH won't display them or manually convert them to JPG (lossy) or BMP (massive) or PCX, TIFF, or PNG which are not easily to convert to unless you have extra software.

There was a time when GIf was covered by the LZW patent, but this ran out in 2003/4. So there is no reason why support for GIF couldn't have been included in version since 2.3. A quick google for 'GIF patent' will show the facts.

As a side effect of support for GIF, icons in diagrams can have proper support for transparency rather than a hack based on reading the top left pixel of the BMP.

This is already in the wish list

http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldispl ... lwlref=253

(there is a limitation on the search in the MySQL for the wish list in that it does not search on words less than 4 characters. When I get time I will try and code around it, I am hopeful when Freeola upgrade the MySQL on the 8th this limitation will go away.)

My apologies, thanks for pointing it out to me. I even voted for it as well! :-)
