Web/CD - Option for larger photo

I think FH is excellent and I would be lost without it. As a non-core function I believe the Web/CD element is very usable and produces a good website. However, I would like the option of storing larger format pictures (photos or document scans)which could be accessed by a clickable thumbnail in the Individual or Family reports. I believe the current thumbnail of census forms or other source documents are not worth using.

There is a good reason form maintaining census pages and BMD certificates as thumbnails if they are to be mounted on a public website, namely copyright. If they are fully legible then the terms under which you obtained them would be broken as they can only be used for your own personal use or the use of your immediate family or the person for whom you obtained it (paraphrased from memory, I'm am sure somebody will correct me if I have got it wrong).

So unless your FH website is protected by username/password it's OK, but if not stick to thumnails.

But website layout is actually a good way to share with family members I find, so this would answer my mother's oft repeated criticism of the family tree I send her occasionally!

It's true that census pages and BMD cert scans should be kept as thumbnails rather than full resolution images for copyright reasons. However FH does not know which image is a copyrighted image and which is not. Why should FH only implement thumbnails just in case an image is a copyrighted one. It is not the job of the program to control the user, rather it is the user who is in control and who decides what is copyrighted (and thumbnailed) and what is not.

I agree with you but the wish list item should be amended to reflect this. As it stands it will be possible to enlarge all images.

In the Pictures section of your Report Options, you are offered a picture Size choice of Small, Medium, Large and Custom. You can use Custom to define an image any size you like but of course it will apply to every image in that Picture Type on your Website, CD or Report [frown]

Similarly, you can set the size of the image on Sources.
