Working with associations might be easier if there would be an option which auto-creates a reverting association.

starting point
0 @I1@ INDI
0 @I2@ INDI

if turning I1 into
0 @I1@ INDI
1 ASSO @I2@
2 RELA witness

then I2 should turned into
0 @I2@ INDI
1 ASSO @I1@

with no RELA data since that could differ.
teacher student association against
neighboor neighboor association

Also related to that one would be the ability to have a diagram view which simply shows a selected individual together with all it's associated poeple. Mainly since FH allows working from within the diagram against most other programs where one must work at text-level-views.
Perhaps this would make the above auto-creation of reverse associations obsolete since if one is able to have 1-way-associated poeple in the diagram one could easliy reach them to add the reverting association.

SNAP!  I hit just this problem this morning.  It's a problem with Gedcom, as it defines ASSO as an attribute of INDI, rather than, properly, as a relationship between them (Gedcom is not a database definition).

However, as suggested, FH could work around this by always (or at least optionally) inserting a pair of matching ASSO entries, one in each direction.

Otherwise you're left with trying to decide which side of the relationship to record the ASSO on.
