Looking at the Multimedia Records Pane, [Type] seems to be fixed by the file extension and is not editable. I would like to have 'type' as a field in the properties, with a standard and custom list behind it which is configurable on the fly.
The problem is, jpg is classified as 'picture'. It could actually be a photograph, a map image, a document image or other image. Also a pdf is classified as 'document', whereas it may actually be a document image.
The [insert] .... menu item for MM objects would, I think, need just one option with a '*.*' (or comprehensive MM file filter) in the file selection. The file extension indicates the file type anyway for viewing operations and the contents of the [Type] field would be a useful indicator of the contents of the file and could be included in the source properties [objects] tab list.
