Although family history software continues to evolve, providing greater functionality for data and diagram management, options for hard copy presentation of family tree diagrams remain limited to specialist printed large single sheet or home produced multi-sheet formats. Each format has its advantages and disadvantages. Navigation around the branches on a single sheet printout is easier, particularly for persons not familiar with the layout of large or complex trees. Although multiple sheets can be sellotaped together to mimic the large format, the task is time consuming and the result is often visually less pleasing.
Research reference copies or distribution copies are often more easily handled as multi-sheet packs, but this format can be more difficult to navigate due to lack of clarity of branch routings across page boundaries. A solution to this problem could be to apply a technique used in industrial Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) or computer function charts where interconnections across page boundaries are cross-referenced at both the source and destination page boundaries. Such cross referencing is essential as charts can often include several hundred pages. For Family Historian, the reference could comprise the interconnecting page and person ID numbers. A software switch could be included for printouts where such cross-referencing is not required.
As far as I am aware, there is currently no family history software that provides such a solution, unless someone can advise otherwise?

The only program I know which does this is TCGR, which I use occasionally.
I thought there was a wish list item for this, but I can't see it.
I do need to update the list, but it might be a few days before I get around to it.

Hi Jane
You may be recalling my enquiry via v3 forum on 19 March 2009.
Wish List reference 232 - Tracking connections in diagrams - requests some form of colour coding of paths, which is not quite the same, but it may be that my request would provide a solution to that requirement.

Hi Jane
I note that this Wish List item has been processed, but it does not appear to have been included in the Wish List. This may be because you suggested an alternative solution - TCGR - which I looked at, but unfortunately its solution was fairly basic and bears no comparison to the sophisticated and attractive layouts that can be achieved within Family Historian Diagrams.
Could you please clarify how this request has been processed. Although Wish List items are given a reference and a web link back to the original request, forward links from request to Wish List do not seem to exist. Such links would be useful if the request title changes or if two or more similar requests are merged.
Many thanks.

I couldn't find it, it's possible I made a mistake when moving and copying the text. It's a manual process which takes me a while.
