Utility Request - Surname conversion to UPPERCASE
Please advise if any Utility for conversion of GEDCOM Surnames to all UPPERCASE without looseing data.
Would FH like to include such Utility.
Also a Utility for converting Given Names to Lower case except the first Initial of each given name, coverting the first Initail to upcase - so as to standardize all names in FH.
eg John Frederick DOE
Thanks, Steve

I am not sure why you would want to convert them to Uppercase, just tell FH to show all surnames in uppercase, in the preferences.
I can't see how you can convert them with out losing the case?
I have a basic utility which will convert surnames to lowercase and give you the option to change the case for tricky ones.

Hi,
When sending GEDCOM to site like ANCESTRY you need uppercase SURNAMES.
FH shows Upper case but does not convert to Upper case.
Also some people use All upper case and this is anoying
and is like shouting in forums etc. I would like to convert all names to standard case with lower case Given names with Upper Initials and All Upper Case SURNAMES.
Is this possible, would your surname utility work on first names???
Thanks, Steve

I have never needed to uppercase surnames when uploading to ancestry, is this something new?
I don't have time to do one for Given Names at the moment, but you might be able to do something using a standard reg ex text editor.

I agree with Jane. Ancestry does not require upper-case surnames. I have just uploaded a GEDCOM from FH to Ancestry with normal Capitalised Surnames and it uploaded fine.
Regarding converting upper-case to lower-case using a regular expression editor, I think it would be tedious. Most RE do not allow case changes from the Find string to the Replace string.
The best you could expect is to find each capital 'A' in the NAME given-names prior to /Surname/ and replace it with a lower-case 'a', and repeat this for all 26 letters of the alphabet. Then to capitalise the first letter of each given name, repeat for space lower-case letter e.g. ' a' and replace with space upper-case letter e.g. ' A' .

Thanks,

PS is there a way of resizeing the Merge screen permantly
Maually merging people and families requires multiple opening of the merge comparision screen and
after expanding persons for comparing,
the screen is too small to quickly visually compare them.
Thanks, Steve

OK Sorry,
I just found the maximise button - but it would be nice for it to stay maximised.
Thanks, Steve
