* Time of Birth and Time of Death

Scottish Birth & Death records include the time-of-day that the event happened.

I'd like to include this info' in my Family Historian database but I can't see any way of doing so.

If it doesn't exist already, could this facility be added to the wish list?

Why not simply enter it in the note field with a label and you can use =getlabelledtext() if you want to show it on diagrams.

The time is also shown on English/Welsh Birth Certificates for twins and multiple births. Presumably this is to eliminate any doubts where inheritance of an estate/title etc is to the first-born, even if the children are twins?

For anything to do with functions your are best checking out the Advanced section of the Help. It will explain the function. If you are still having problems just post again.

The problem with using GetLabelledText on the contents of the note is that the labelled text destroys the literary nature of the note. If you use, as I do, the note as narrative text that appears in a narrative report amplifying the bald facts, then stuff with labels sticks out a mile as saying 'This is a Computer Print'. (OK, it's not exactly Pulitzer Prize winning text now but it's at least a good attempt in lieu of real literary effort).

I'd therefore rather see FH create an extension to GEDCOM to hold time of events BUT it's got to be accessible through the narrative sentence.

What about using a Date Phrase with the interpreted as option?

Use the Date Entry Assistant to enter a Date Phrase such as 2:00 am and then tick the interpreted as option and enter the full Day/Month/Year.

Alternatively, enter the Day/Month/Year directly into the Date field but follow it with '2:00 am' in quotes.

These dates appear in all Reports and Diagrams in a format like 22 Jan 1922 ('2:00 am'), which looks OK to me.

Tatewise - an interesting suggestion there. The pain in the posterior is FH's addition of those quotes, which messes up the narrative, e.g.

On 12 January 1922 ('from his birth') Anthony was living in Cheltenham.

I just checked the GEDCOM - the quotes are not on the GEDCOM and are totally an FH-generated artifact and another thing that disrupts the readability of the narrative. Still, worth bearing in mind...

My proposal was for adding a Time to the Date and for that the ('2:00 am') style looks OK to me.

If you want a Narrative Report to say 'On 12 January 1922 ('from his birth') Anthony was living in Cheltenham.' or perhaps better worded as 'From his birth on 12 January 1922 Anthony was living in Cheltenham.' then change the Sentence Template.
e.g.
From {his/her} birth {date} {individual} was living {place}.

This can be changed on a Birth by Birth case, or globally in the Birth Event Properties.

Don't read too much into it - it was just an example. You're perfectly right though, I could do it by changing the sentence on a case-by-case basis - I'd just rather not change the sentence for individual facts if I don't have to.

(Re our other thread - I need to see what custom sentences I've got and why - not sure if they're all justified)
