I wonder if any other users have the same need, or perhaps a neat solution?

Often, updating or entering a batch of new records, I find myself typing (or copying and pasting) repetitive elements of text such as registration district or parish names. In any one session, these are usually quite few in number - three or four, normally under 10.

One solution is to type these into (for example) a Notepad document kept open in the background, copying and pasting from this when needed.

Another way could be for Family Historian to include a "snippets" data type to store user-defined text phrases, opened or activated by a simple click or hot-key. This would show a list or drop-down and allow one-click pasting of a selected item to the active property box (or other?) text field.

That would be a significant labour-saving device (and reduce typing errors) for me. Comments most welcome, please.

If you use Ancestral Sources to enter your census/birth/baptism/marriage/death/burial records then you should find a lot of this repetitive stuff is no longer required.

If you choose to not use AS then the ability to copy and paste facts between individuals can again make this requirement less of an issue.

However, I'd agree it sounds like a useful thing though there are several clipboard managers available for Windows which allow you to have multiple items in a paste buffer so it may not require direct FH support.

For years I have used a small clipboard manager called CLCL, it remembers the last few things you had in your clipboard, along with a selection of snippets. It's pretty well the first thing I install on any new computer.

Having come from The Master Genealogist (TMG) that software had the option of using a shortcut key(F3) to enter repeat data. From memory you could also use F2 to get a list of recent data entered into any particular field. It may well be that this was a feature of the underlying database software that was used but if it was possible for a shortcut key of this type in FH it would be a great timesaver!

There have been a few posts on this in the past and yes, that is something I miss from TMG.

As Jane says above try a clipboard manager (I use ARSCLIP which is portable http://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/97/, but there are many more see http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-fr ... tility.htm.

It is probably time to review my choice, but when I last checked I still preferred Arsclip over Ditto which seems to be a favourite and is also available as a portable app via http://www.liberkey.com/en/catalog-flat-list-view.html or http://portableapps.com/apps. The advantage of these last 2 sites is that new versions are automatically updated (I find portableapps best for the latest updates).

With Arsclip you can have different sets of presets for different programs with hot keys. A bit of setting up, but once done saves a lot of time

Moving this to Closed Wish List requests as it can be solved using one of the Clipboard managers suggested.
