Portable Diagram Icon File Links

See how_to:using_flags_and_icons_and_expressions#icon_file_links|> Icon File Links for background.

Since FH V4 introduced Projects, it is easy to create Media file links that migrate to another PC without becoming broken, because relative file paths are employed.

If Diagram Icons are only ever selected from the glossary:family_historian_program_data_folder|> Program Data folder Icons sub-folder, then only the filenames are saved and migrate to another PC without becoming broken links.

However, if Icons are selected from anywhere else on the PC, then absolute file paths are saved, that probably will NOT migrate to another PC without becoming broken links, resulting in a File Not Found message. I think this is the cause of the problems reported in Flag/Icon links in Diagrams (12473).

This request is to offer relative file path links for Icons in more scenarios.
e.g.
  • Allow sub-folders within the glossary:family_historian_program_data_folder|> Program Data folder Icons sub-folder to be saved as relative file paths. Then an ...\Icons\Custom\ folder could hold custom Icons that migrate to another PC.
  • Similarly, allow sub-folders within the Family Historian Projects location to be saved as relative file paths with similar benefits.
Fixing the problem with a Plugin is complex, because locating the misplaced Icon files is tricky, and the broken links may be in the Windows Registry for Core Diagrams, or within Standard/Custom Diagram Type (.fhdx) files in the Program Data folder, or within FH Chart (.fhc) files in any Project Chart folder.
