Properties dialog memory

Post by MarkB » 21 Apr 2006 12:31

I'm sure this isn't a bug but just an oversight.

The Properties dialog has 2 buttons to go back and forth between the last items, useful for looking at a source, then going back to an individual, say.

However, when I enter a new source the buttons go grey and therefore won't allow me to go back to the person I was looking at prior to entering the source. This is very annoying as, after entering new source details, I then naturally want to link it to the individual I'm working on.

Does that make any sense? :-)

Hi Mark

I couldn't reproduce this without actually closing the Property Dialog.  As long as I left the Property Dialog button open, the 'Go Back' button continued to work, ungreyed, however I added a New Source. I tried 3 click the 'Add Citation' and then clicking 'New' to add a new source.  And I also tried using Insert > Source (i.e. from the main menu).  Can you give more details about how you go this to happen?

Hi Simon

I wrote that a while back only having used FH3 for a short while.

I was using GEDCOM Census to enter my census records and create new source entries.

This 'problem' came about because, GEDCOM Census creates a new .ged file, of course. When FH3 reloads it the Properties dialog is emptied and the 'Go Back' button is greyed. That's what I saw as the problem of not being able to go back to the person I was looking at. I've since realised what was happening of course.

However, I would love for FH to overcome this little niggle. Is there some way FH could remember the last record it was looking at between sessions, or when the ged file being used was update externally?

all the best and grateful thanks for an easy to use and intelligent program.

I agree and actually this is something I keep forgetting to request from Simon. It would make switching between FH and GC so much more seamless.

It would be good to have that - is it on the wish list?

I've had a quick look and didn't see it.
I'll see if I can add it.
