If oftern print out the 'Ancestors & Descendants Diagram', so i have a visual refernce of my direct line. However using version 3 i think there is an issue with the option to avoid the page boundries.
It moves the boxes around to avoid the page boundries as i would expect (even if i don't like the fact that on V3 i get kinked lines [frown] compared to tnice adjustments on v2). However, what it does not do is adjust the relationship descriptions, so if these are printed they don't line anymore i.e. get the description for children/nephews/neices on a level with me, and the rest a just get worse.
Do anybody else get this ?

Hi Tonybee,
There is no straight forward answer. When i was printing them in version 2, it was a case of trying both landscape & portrait to see on which way round i could fit the diagram with the least numebr of pages. You need to use the 'view page boundrys' option when looking at the diagram, then oftern if you move them round a bit it can save you another 2 or 3 pages [grin]. On version 3, with the large diagram size, i am looking at about 51 page portrait or 44 landscape, but due to the problem i reported, if i move the boundries to get this the labels have gone out of line.

Richard - you should be able to correct this if you made all the boxes the same size. That should make all the rows the same size. Then you can rescale the diagram so that you can get an exact number of rows fitting vertically within each page. Then when you click 'Avoid Page Boundaries' the diagram should only need to adjust itself horizontally and not also vertically.
To make boxes/rows the same size, you need to go to the Dimensions tab of the Diagram Options dialog and increase the Minimum Box Height to the height of the largest box (and make sure that the Standard Box Height is no less than the minimum box height too). You might also consider setting the vertical 'Avoid Page Boundaries' gap to 0', to reduce the likelihood of unwanted repositioning. To find this field click 'More Dimensions' in the Dimensions tab.
For advice on scaling, see 'Scaling' and 'Scaling a Diagram to Fit a Page Size' in Chapter 9 of the manual.

Hi Simon,
Thanks for the suggestion, i have given it a try and it is exceptionaly fiddly to get it right. Doing the diaram scaling it's almost impossible to get the lines the same size as page, when the box's keep moving [rolleyes].

I agree with Richard it is rather fiddly to get it right.
Avoiding page boundries is essential went printing for friends and family.
Is there nothing that can be done with the vertical spacing to make it more automatic perhaps in the next update.
Setting all the boxes to the same size doesn't produce the most pleasing final result.
I recently wanted one which contains census information, which meant that some boxes contained a lot of information and others very little.
Many Thanks
David

It's not just the relationship descriptions that get 'out of sync' it is also the generation stripes and boundaries (at least on left to right and right to left orientation).
