I want to produce an alphabetic index of the individuals in a publication of family trees. I think I've seen some info on it somewhere, but can't find it again.

Can anyone help?

I did a custom query based on a particular caste which identifies the individuals I need in the index. This can only be saved into Excel csv format which is pretty limiting when it comes to formatting etc.

However, I have just pasted the contents into a Word doc, which seems not too bad, though there are some formatting limitations again, because it retains the cell/box feature.

I am assuming that I would not find the process any easier in V4, if it is still on the wish list?

Re above comment you should be able to remove the cell/box feature by using the option to 'convert table to text' in Microsoft Word? In Word 2007 you'll find this on the 'Table tools' 'layout' tab on  the right hand side - can't remember where it was in earlier versions but looking in help for 'covert table to text' should find it OK?

After this you should be able to use the full formatting power of Word [smile]

If it helps, I've used the custom report from here that lists individuals.  I elect to list all, then in the 'select records' window I list them alphabetically (just click 'individual records') and then save the results as a 'word processor document'  This then opens up in word.  I use 2003.
