Surname Only List

Is there a report somewhere that lists just the surnames in a family tree?

Not that I can think of, you can obviously use a query to list all the surnames, but you would need to copy them to a file to remove the duplicates.

Sue,
You could create a new custom query with the following Column definition:

Heading: Name(SURNAME) [or anything else you like]
Expression: %INDI.NAME[1]:SURNAME%
Sort: Ascending

You would also need to delete the column headed 'Individual' which appears by default for an Individual query.

You may want to include on the query Rows tab a filter such as the following to exclude blank surnames:

Condition: Exclude if...
Expression: =IsTrue(%INDI.NAME:GIVEN_ALL% = %INDI.NAME%)
Operator: is true
Peter Richmond (researching Richmond, Bulman, Martin, Driscoll, Baxter, Hall, Dales, Tyrer)

A new function in v4.1.0 provides a neater method to eliminate blank surnames from a query if desired:

Condition: Exclude if...
Expression: =FieldText(%INDI%,'INDI.NAME:SURNAME')
Operator: is null
