FHTextFix - v3 to v4 TEXT exception report fix
Posted: 15 May 2009 07:30
If you get an exception report when you upgrade your v3 FH Gedcom to v4 then you will probably find this little utility useful.
In v3, you were allowed to add a number of actual TEXT fields in SOURce records. v4 is more strict in following the Gedcom spec and only allows 1 TEXT field. You might have got multiple fields either from merges or just from adding them manually. FHTextFix will either convert the TEXT fields into NOTE fields or merge them into one single TEXT field. Either way you will not loose any data which is what v4 currently does when encountering the extra TEXT fields. I had 162 TEXT fields which were processed in my Gedcom file.
Installing the program is simple, just create a temporary directory, extract the four files from FHTextFix.zip into this directory, and then run the program. When you have finished you can just delete the directory to remove the program.
There is help available in the program, but basically you select your Gedcom, set your options, and click 'Fix'.
You can find the utility in fhugdownloads:contents:fhtextfix|> Utility ~ FHTextFix.
Contact details are in the program for any questions, bug reports, or suggestions.
