Transfer files from Desktop to Laptop

I am not certain whether this subject has been covered, my apologies in advance if it has already. My question
how do I transfer the files (Families and Individuals) from Desktop to Laptop. I would like to keep both machines in sync. What do I look for in the FH programme. I can see Diagrams, Fact Types, Program, Queries, Reports etc but nothing that would indicate the Family information that I have entered.

See the following Knowledge Base article

http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... e_settings

Your family information is stored in the Gedcom file that you open when you start FH, or alternatively double click from Explorer. This file basically contains all the individuals, the dates of their events and any notes. Don't forget to transfer any external files (multimedia, documents, images, etc) as well.

I keep all my FH materials in a folder on my desktop. I have various sub-folder for census images, scans of certificates, material from cover CDs and so forth but all in a top level folder which also holds my .ged file and backup directory. I use a utility called sync back se (free) to synch this with a 4 GB memory stick that I plug into a laptop and have that setup to use the memory stick directly as its folder structure.

This all works well for me.

I mostly use our desktop but there are times when I want to put all the Family Tree stuff on the laptop to transport it around.

I make it a GOLDEN RULE not to alter any of the files on the laptop - I can see myself getting in a terrible muddle if I entered some info on one and some on the other! I make all the files I tranfer to the laptop 'read only' to remind me when I;m tempted to make a little tweak!!
