Improve Source Citation Pane in FH V7

Post by tatewise »

Edit: It'd been suggested that this (found languishing in the New Wish List Request forum for some reason) would be good to turn into a KB article -- does anyone have the time/inclination?

A recurring complaint is that the FH V7 Source Citation Pane is not like FH V6.
This describes a popular method for customising FH V7 to mimic FH V6 as shown below.

The first crucial step is to float the Source Citation List Pane (yellow Sources For panel).
Use Tools > Preferences > Property Box and in Preferred Position for Citation List Pane set both docked and floating modes to Open in New Window and click OK.

Now display the Focus Window with the Property Box docked on the right.
Ensure the main FH window is NOT full screen. Click the Restore Down button top right if necessary.
Adjust the size and position of the main FH window to occupy the lefthand two-thirds of the screen.

In the toolbar at the top of the Property Box, click the yellow scroll Show Sources icon.
That will display a floating yellow Citation List Pane (Sources For panel).
Adjust the size and position of that pane to occupy the top righthand corner of the screen.

Choose a fact in the Property Box with a Source Citation so it appears in the Citation List Pane.
In the Citation List Pane toolbar, click the yellow scroll & pen Edit Source Citation icon.
That will display a floating Citation Window with all the Source and Citation details.
Adjust the size and position of that pane to occupy the bottom righthand corner of the screen.

The Citation Window cog Menu > Customize Citation Window... allows its fields to be further adjusted.
You no longer need to open the cited Source record as both Source and Citation details are shown together.

Your FH workspace should now look something like the screenshot below and be remembered by FH.
