* On hold until 23 Oct 2024: Re-order Events by Date as a preferential UI setting

For Wish List Requests that need more work before they can be progressed to the Wish List, because after 3 months, discussions have not arrived at a clear specification of the requirement such that one or more Wish List items can be raised. Items On Hold that are not subsequently refined to a state suitable for the Wish List within a year by the OP or other interested parties will be closed. If the OP feels unable to progress the request, they should ask for volunteers among other interested users to assist.

On hold until 23 Oct 2024: Re-order Events by Date as a preferential UI setting

I would like to see the Re-order Events by Date incorporated into the UI as a Focus Window preference that would apply to all family groups within a dataset. It is rather tedious to have to F9 every time I add new children to a couple in order to see all of them in proper order by DOB.

To generate a Wish List request, we need a good complete specification of what's being asked for, particularly when it's a change to a feature that has existed for 19 years.

Re-order Events by Date/F9 does more than just re-order children (and spouses); it also re-orders Facts. Are you asking for re-ordering of just individuals within a family, or the full functionality of F9? Or should there be options similar to those when you ask to reorder the whole database via Tools > re-order Out-of-Sequence Data?

Do you also want it to apply to the Property Box and Records Window? -- I would assume so, for consistency.

Would you expect the preference to apply to all existing data, or only to data entered after it became available?

By Preferential, what do you mean -- that the UI should default to this behaviour? If so, that would be problematic for existing users as their data order could be changed without them asking for it; the behaviour should default to the current status quo.

This cannot be added to the Wish List without more detail.

Here are some ideas.
The Tools > Re-order Out-of-Sequence Data dialogue has a checklist of items to re-order (Spouses, Children, Facts, LDS Ord.).
Edit > Re-order Events by Date and Property Box menu Sort Family and Events in Date Order and the F9 key don't have a checklist.
Tools > Preferences > General tab, Advanced... button has Enable automatic ordering of Events/Attributes by Date ticked by default, but that does not affect Spouses or Children.

Perhaps the preferences could have defaults for each of Spouses, Children, Events/Attributes, and LDS Ordinances.
Those would set the Tools > Re-order Out-of-Sequence Data dialogue checklist item defaults.
They would also allow Spouses and Children to get automatically sorted on entry, the same as Facts can be now.
This latter effect is what the OP appears to be requesting.

On hold until the OP clarified the requirement.
