New Developer Questions

Is there a way of running the 'new plugin' tool without running all of FH5 (or can you suggest another compatible editor).
Is FH5 compatible with all of Lua 5.1 and IUP v3 or only a subset?
TIA
Eddie

In order to use the FH functions and objects you need to have FH running for obvious reasons.

If you just want to use pure Lua you can use the Windows for Lua Download, I tend to use FH to launch Lua as normally I want the FH extensions and I prefer the debug tool in FH. If you want to see coloured code you can paste it in to PSPad which supports Lua, you just need to add it to the syntax highlighter options.

You can use all of Lua 5.1 and the IUP and LFS modules are installed, along with their dependencies like IM and a few others. If you are just getting started they should give you most things you need. The help currently details a few of the easy to use items in IUP, just to get people started. From the Plug Editor help menu you can access the web versions of both the IUP and Lua manuals.

Pretty well everything from Programming In Lua is available to you.

BTW What I normally do is start FH with the Sample Project loaded when I'm writing scripts.

Out of interest what don't you like about the FH editor which means you want to use a different one?

Jane
Thanks for the reply -just what I wanted.
I do like the editor in FH but just don't like having FH hanging around in the background while I'm learning (maybe I'm weird) but I expected it to be the case that I needed FH running in order to work on FH projects and I'll certainly be using the sample project and not my own while I'm learning.[smile]
Glad to hear most of Lua etc is available (I quite often tend to pick and mix on tutorials so I wanted to check for any problems first)
What is LFS?
Thanks
Eddie

Lua File system, there is a short guide in the Lua help, it allows you to read through directories which is not supported directly in Lua.

When I get time [grin] I was hoping to do a scan directory and compare with media in linked to FH to check for files which need to be linked into FH.

If you try the tutorial in the help, don't forget to report any issues with it, shout if you have problems. I was using Lua before as I use Lightroom, and I have been using it for a while on FH with an Alpha version of 5.
