Plugins that take more than a few seconds

Post by Cambiz » 11 Aug 2011 09:11

The List All Citations takes about 20-40 seconds to run on my pc. I get grey out and see a 'not responding' message.

Is there a possibility of a PLUGIN RUNNING message/popup or such like - does not have to be a process bar just something to tell me not to be so impatient.

I tried this for my source with most citations, 572, and it took about 4 seconds.  I guess you either have many more citations, or a slower PC (my laptop is over five years old).  Some longer-running plugins do incorporate Jane's Progress Display (drop in) function.

On the latest beta, if you run the option from the Plugin menu it should show running in the column to the right of the name.

It's also worth noting if you run them from the editor, they take between 10-15 times as long to run, because the debug is open, but in that case they say running at the top of the editor.

Peter - yes, big file

Jane - I think I'll ditch all the plugins and reinstall them.

Two things - maybe these should be spilt into two problemettes

1. The plugin popup has a column 'State'.

I couldn't screen capture it when it was running but I can only see Runn as the State column is hidden by the right of the screen. Resizing it is only temporary. How about having State always to the left?

2. When using the 'Add to Tools Menu' I don't see the Pop-up anyway! Means I am wondering if I've started the plugin.

Chris, I 'll add the Progress Bar code to the List Citations Plugin.

I think the problem is I was trying to keep the code simple so people could easily customise the code if they wanted to, but I understand your issue.

edit: The plugin has been updated in the Plug in Store.

I also added a column for the Citation so you can simply delete it if you want by selecting the cell and pressing delete.
