EXPORT GEDCOM plugin problem with latest update

Post by juliemuirhead49 » 07 Jun 2023 14:46

Is there a way to go back to an earlier version. The transfer to TNG is not giving good results for some of my sources that were working fine before.

Below is an example, the name and quarter information is missing and there are no spaces between the fields. I can't show and example before as they are all showing like this. Previously I do know I had templated sources removed entirely. I have tried "convert to notes" and "footnote to title" both do this.

[S1] England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1916-2007, 1920.
Bristol6A/305Higgs

I do remember it was showing before basically the short footnote over two lines which would be like this.

England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1916-2007
Gladys L N Rose, March quarter 1920, Bristol, 6A/305. Mother's maiden name: Higgs.

To create my citations I am using custom sources that have fields for all the data above.

I have attached the Export Gedcom File - V5-4 plugin Version 5.4 Date 13 Apr 2023 which is the previous version.
So you can run either the previous Export Gedcom File - V5-4 or the current Export Gedcom File plugin and compare the results.

However, in the Export Gedcom Plugin (21430) thread, you were effectively using V5.2 so I'm not sure which version you consider the previous version as it has moved on to V5.3 and V5.4 and lastly V5.5.
In that earlier thread, you were happy with the Remove entirely setting and that should still behave the same way in the later versions. Please provide details if that is not the case.
So you can check, I have also attached the Export Gedcom File - V5-2 plugin Version 5.2 Date 25 Jan 2023.

BTW: The attached files are ZIP files that must be extracted as you did in the previous thread (see the details there).

The only differences between V5.4 and V5.5 should be as follows:

a) For Move to Note Record / Convert to Notes and Reformat Metafields / Footnote to Title
In the current plugin, the Footnote, Short Footnote & Bibliography are saved as Source record labelled Note entries.

b) For Reformat Metafields / Footnote to Title
Format style codes such as <b> <i> <u> are included in the Source Title if they were defined in the Footnote.

There should have been no change to the fields included in the Title.

You say that you had "templated sources removed entirely". But that option does not ever change the Source Title.
You mention that the short footnote was over two lines. But the earlier plugin does not output the Short Footnote and it would never span two lines anyway.
So I am a little uncertain about what you thought happened before versus what happens now.
I will be interested in your comparison of the two plugin versions.

Oops I'm going to apologise Mike, I refreshed my memory by looking at my post from earlier in the year (should have done that yesterday.

I totally forgot to get the results I wanted I needed to copy the footnote to the citation text. It's been a crazy couple of months first making sure some assignments were completed and submitted my IHGS course and then knee surgery (which happened a couple of week ago).

I shall now go back through everyone and fix the problem.
