Question on the Ancestry Synchronization Plugin and Unique ID

This is a quick question. I would like to start using the Ancestry Synchronization plugin to keep a private tree updated for hints on Ancestry. When I run it, it says the individuals have to have a uniqueID.
My question is: If I use the
https://pluginstore.family-historian.co ... t-uniqueid UniqueID plugin there are three options. Does it make a difference which format I use to maintain the sync between FH and RM?
Thanks,
Matthew

I think you are meant to use Tools > Record Ids... and Generate UID at the bottom, and not a plugin.

Correct. The Ancestry Sync plugin directs you to the Tools > Record Ids menu to generate any missing values from within FH prior to running the plugin.
Although the basic UniqueID is common across all supporting apps, there are different formats in use, with or without a checksum, and with or without punctuation. FH and RM use different formats, but that is managed entirely within the sync plugin.
It would be possible in principle to generate missing UniqueID values directly from a plugin (an author who is no longer active on FHUG has already done that, but not published their script). However, it’s not a trivial calculation and requires low level access to system hardware to generate the pseudo-random seeds for the calculation.
