Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin

I have adapted the Sources List for Individual plugin to work through a selection of Individual records.
It is attached as Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin Version 0.1 Date 14 Jun 2022.
Mike,

Last year you very kindly created this plugin for me.

Is it possible to adapt the plugin to list Source Records for 'Witnessed' facts? (That is, where the individual(s) were a 'Witness'.)

Many thanks.
Jean

Jean, I think you'll find it already lists Fact Witness Source Citations.

Click the Field column heading to sort alphabetically and all the Witness: ... entries will be together near the bottom of the list.

Or perhaps you mean where the selected Individual(s) are a Fact Witness to somebody else's facts?

Try the attached Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin Version 0.2 Date 07 Feb 2023.

I think this adds the Sources for the Individuals where they are a Fact Witness for some other person's Fact.
The Result Set, Field column will contain ~ Principal: and the other person's name after the description of the field with the citation which will most often be Witness: and the name of the selected individual.

Mike,

Thank you. However, I am not sure if I am misunderstanding something. The plugin is not working for me. I am getting the same Result Set for both versions of the plugin (2022 version, and today's version.) That is, no Source listed where the Individual is a Witness to another person's fact.

Are you sure the Fact Witness actually has a Source Citation?

Let us assume you are listing Source Citations for person 'W' who is a Fact Witness for Fact 'F' of principal person 'P'.
Open the person 'P' Property Box, double-click Fact 'F' to show the Fact Witnesses and select Witness person 'W'.
If necessary, open the yellow Sources For citation list pane. Is there a Source Citation listed?

If so then post a screenshot showing the Fact in the Facts tab, the Fact Witnesses window and the Sources For pane.

Aha. I've just started to experiment with Witnesses (I held back after losing all my TMG Witnesses when I came long ago to FH!), and I've made the presumption that the existing Sources for the Fact would be carried over to the Witness. I see that isn't so.

When I highlight the Witness Fact in the Witnesses' Property Box I can see that the 'original' Sources Citations are listed.

However, when I follow your instructions there are no Source Citations listed.

I think a little more reading of the Help is required on my part.

Jean, as an aside, I notice that you are using Fact Witnesses to show BMD events of close relatives.
In this particular example, the death of Gertrude Lowe is being shown in the Facts tab of parents David Lowe & Sarah Haigh and siblings Mary & Lilian Lowe.
You don't need to do that because FH offers 'Timeline Facts' for the BMD events of close relatives.
Enable the Show Timeline Facts icon on the right of the Property Box toolbar to the left of the cog Menu icon.
That is the icon that looks like a calendar with a green cross.
The Facts tab will then show the Death event of Gertrude Lowe with a silver bullet. along with Birth, Marriage & Death events for other close relatives.
The only drawback is that Timeline Facts are not included in most Reports.

Regarding the Source Citations for Fact Witnesses, it could be argued that the Souce Citation on the principal Fact also applies to all the Fact Witnesses, and I could include them in the plugin if you like.
When you select a Fact Witness fact with a blue arrow the Source Citation shown is that of the principal Fact.

Thank you Mike.

I am aware of Timeline facts but I don't like CP's wording! I like to see my Property Box Fact Tabs list laid out and worded in a particular way.

I am not adding these BMD Fact Witnesses to all people but to a few families where I have a particular interest.

Yes, I presumed that the Source Citation(s) on the principal fact would indeed apply to all the Fact Witnesses. I would be most grateful if you would include them in the plugin.

Many thanks.

Try the attached Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin Version 0.3 Date 08 Feb 2023.

It now adds the Source Citation(s) on any Witnessed Fact (but not those on the Fact's Place, Media, or Note sub-fields).

In the Field column, it cleans up the names of family record couples by removing the '... of' prefix.

In the Field column, family facts such as Married & Divorced are suffixed with the names of the family couple.

A useful exercise for me to run this plug-in - now I see the Data Ref and it kind of puts everything together for me :)

Just a minor observation: would it help if the rows were sorted by data ref within each individual to make it easier to see where there are multiple sources for a single field.

For me, not needed. I use the Result Set as a step in producing a custom Report that I have created.

Maybe others would find it useful.

John, the initial Result Set does already group together entries for the same data Field with multiple Source Citations.
So I'm not sure why you are suggesting that is necessary.

Anyway, sorting by Data Ref would bring together multiple instances of otherwise unrelated data Fields.
e.g. All Census Event Citations have Data Ref INDI.CENS.SOUR, so the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc, Census would be listed together.

Currently, the initial data order is Individual data/facts, Family as spouse data/facts, and Fact Witness facts, where for each group the data is in chronological order, which naturally places the same data Fields next to each other.

The first individual I tried it on had sources for the name as the first and sixth rows.

I looked this morning to see if I could understand what's happening compared with your explanation. It's happening quite a lot - here's one example.

It seems to be wherever I've used the Add GRO Source plugin for a marriage.

Hope I've shown enough for you to look.

I see what you mean. It does not happen all the time.
I suspect it is to do with the sorting of entries by Individual Rec Id that does not retain the order of the other items.

So, I have used a hidden Date column to sort the items after sorting by Rec Id.
The Date value is derived from the item wherever a Date or Sort Date is available, otherwise for undated items, a synthetic date is used that retains their order but places them before any dated items.
This means that the Individual, Family & Witnessed items are all listed entirely chronologically as far as possible.

I've also modified the Field column so that its items can be double-clicked or right-clicked to open the Property Box.

So try the attached Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin Version 0.4 Date 09 Feb 2023.

I've looked at several of those where the sorting was odd and they all look good now - thank you.
