Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
The 'Record Census Data (UK)' Data Entry Assistant has been updated to include the 1921 census for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
The 1921 census for Scotland will be released later this year, and no example schedule is available, so the DEA cannot be updated for Scotland yet.
Ireland and Northern Ireland did not carry out a census in 1921; it was delayed until 1926.

Re: Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
I was going to leave well alone for a few days until the hype died down, but curiosity inevitably got the better of me, and I've downloaded my first image this morning (my father/grandmother in Fulham). It worked well, the free search makes it easy to shortlist likely candidates, so I think I'll be very selective in what I download now (probably just direct line) and set up a lumped source listing probable references that I'll save until it opens to general subscription access (6-12 months??).
FMP don't seem to list the full source citation anywhere, but the free "Extra materials" gives the cover page of the Enumeration Book, with the full Registration District/Sub-district, Enumeration District and NA Piece Number, and the Schedule number is on the individual image, as for 1911.

I can't get into the site -- it's too busy -- so I'll leave it a few weeks and then try for the two-three entries I'm particularly interested in.

Re: Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
Good morning.
I've had no problem getting hold of my first two sets of form data this morning. Like Mark, I'm intending to target a few 'key' families in the census and save everyone else on the 'B list' until such time as FMP opens it up further in the future.
I downloaded the latest version of Record Census Data this morning, but get the following message when trying to run it...
"Not all required fields set, please ensure you have entered region, year, head of household and location."
On clicking 'OK' the message clears but the plugin does not run. Is the program looking for parameters to be set first, or am I missing something obvious?
TIA. Cheers - Graham.

Re: Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
I got into the site okay. I wanted to see both my parents' census entries. Annoyingly, on the first entry I paid £2.25 for a transcription and wondered why I couldn't see the census return itself - the £2.25 is just to see the transcription. I should have read the instructions correctly! I duly paid £3.15 to access the return itself. I then paid a further £3.15 for my other parent's census entry. I'll wait now until the1921 census entries are free to FMP/Ancestry members.
I might add that there was an error on one return. A person's middle name of Wilson was transcribed as William!

The plugin expects a Prepared Citation (using the Essentials Census template) with as a minimum those fields completed.babayaga321 wrote: ↑06 Jan 2022 13:19I downloaded the latest version of Record Census Data this morning, but get the following message when trying to run it...

Re: Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
This might be a silly question, but where is the street address recorded? Unlike 1911, it’s not on the household return. The only option I have found is to do an address search, which shows a tick for the house number you have just purchased. That’s ok for confirmation, but not much use if you don’t already know where the family lived

When you're viewing a census schedule image, there's a button for 'Extra Materials' that let's you access the Cover Sheet.

I've looked there - it has just about every other classification, but doesn't resolve any finer than Parish. There's no field for street address.

It's on the instruction sheet... (In my defence, I haven't got time to do any searches; I'm going to wait until the frenzy dies down).

Mark, are you looking at the 'Cover' page or the 'Front' page? Both can be accessed from the 'Extra materials ' button but the quickest way to ge to the 'Front' page is to click the right arrow next to the main household image. The Front page contains the postal address, and the relevant bit looks like this: (I hope posting an image of a small area doesn't infringe copyright!)

Re: Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
I've just downloaded a page which has the possibility of cracking a long standing DNA puzzle of mine, but the associated schedule (front) page has not been completed. The address is completely blank
I've contacted FMP to ask if they can help without expecting me to speculatively search through other pages in the piece, which would obviously cost a fortune. No idea what they will say, but very frustrating nonetheless!

Found it
It’s in the extra page labelled as Front. One of the things that was confusing me is that the image view looks totally different on my PC (Edge) compared with the iPad (Safari) and you get to the additional pages via a different route...

Re: Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
Mark, as I said in my previous post, there are two ways to get to the 'Front' page on a PC (with Firefox, anyway). The 'Cover' page and the 'Front' can both be accessed from the 'Extra materials' button but the quickest way to ge to the 'Front' page is to click the right arrow next to the main household image.

Good newsletter, thanks. On the iPad/Safari, there is no “Extra materials” button. You have to open the filmstip view, where it’s in a tab labelled “Materials”. The right arrow to the next related image works though (similar to 1911).

Re: Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
Surprisingly (to me at least), the reverse holds true as well. The fee to see the image does NOT include access to the transcript. I went straight for the images out of preference, but on one that was a little hard to read I thought I'd get a second opinion from the transcript. Nope, they wanted a second payment from me. I'll wait.MartinPage wrote: ↑06 Jan 2022 13:21Annoyingly, on the first entry I paid £2.25 for a transcription and wondered why I couldn't see the census return itself - the £2.25 is just to see the transcription. I can understand why they would charge extra if you want to "upgrade" from the transcript to the image, because of the "extra value" in being able to see the original document and decide for yourself what is handwritten there. Foolishly, I thought once you had paid top-whack for the image the transcription would have been bundled with it. I should have known better!
