Registry problem with Backup and restore Family Historian Settings

Post by ississi » 29 Dec 2021 10:54

Hi,
when I try and run Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings I get the following registry error which then closes the plugin

Any ideas what I can do to fix this, please?
Many thanks,
Isabel

Hi Isabel. I am the plugin author. That is extremely odd and I'm struggling to think of an explanation.

Can you give me a summary of the background to running the plugin...

Is that error message repeatable? i.e. If you run the plugin again is it the same?

Have you run the plugin before successfully, or is this the first time?

Have there been any significant changes to your PC or FH since it was last run successfully?

What version of Windows are you running? e.g. 8.1, 10, 11?

The plugin is trying to determine what version of FH is installed by querying the Windows Registry.
The version should be held in the Windows Registry entry: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Calico Pie
The results should be saved in C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugin Data\
Something in that process is not working correctly, but I cannot understand what.
It works OK for me with Windows 10 version 21H2 and FH version 7.0.9
