Probate Plug-in

I've recently upgraded to V7 which is a stark change from V3. I like the data population function on Sources and Citation but regrettably no Probate. I'm not to strong on the script side of things but had the bright idea of cloning a Civil Registration Plugin and adjusting to suit but is appears the source template will not let it run. To keep things simple, is there an existing Probate plugin as I'm unable to locate one. DG

Welcome to the FHUG.

Since FH v7 is such a stark change I suspect you misunderstand some of the terminology.
It may be better to spend a little time coming to terms with the existing new features before trying to customise things.

I think you are talking about the Data Entry Assistant (DEA) Plugin called Record Civil Registration Data (UK).
DEA have the @Subtype: definition in their heading that identifies the Source Template(s) they work with.
If that does not match then the DEA will not be associated with the desired Source Template.

There is advice about that in the Tools > Plugins > More >> > How to Write Plugins > Special Plugin Types > Source-Driven Data Entry Plugins

There is no existing Probate DEA plugin.
The Essentials Source Template 'Testamentary Record' should work with the Probate Event, but does need a DEA.

Is the source you're starting from a probate calendar entry or a will that was proven?

If it's a will, then it's unlikely that a DEA will ever be useful -- there are too many variations in will contents to define a predictable set of derived facts.

If it's a probate calendar entry, Probate records (14362) is relevant, and a DEA should be possible. However, I think you may find customising an existing DEA a bit harder than you expect, as there will need to be changes to the User Interface and to the facts created.

Thanks. It is the Probate Index as this confirms some basic data, date of death, address , effects etc.

Thanks for the guidance
