Export Gedcom File to ZoomPast

Hi,

I discovered ZoomPast yesterday (Thanks Helen) and I am using your Export Gedcom Plug-In, Mike, to create a Gedcom file to upload into ZoomPast. Your help file explains ZoomPast cannot upload media from a PC as yet but can use URL’s to load images. One of your Media Conversion options is to use Absolute Links for media records.

I have my own domain. Can I load images in ZoomPast from a Gedcom upload using URL’s?

Yes, I think that should work.
Of course in FH you won't be able to view those URL linked images.

Thanks Mike. I tried before I posted but didn't work. I must have something wrong in the link. I will have another shot at it.

Post a copy of the URL you are using here and confirm you are entering that in the File: box of the Media record.
Then I can check out the URL and I can follow it then ZoomPast should too.

Hi Mike

I used the option “Multimedia via Absolute Link Records” in your plug-in then did a global replace to convert the File records in gedcom from D:\path to file\image.jpg to URL domain/test2/images/image.jpg
The images are in a folder on my domain at public_html/test2/images
Upload to Zoompast was okay and all data displays correctly.

Typing that URL for a specific image into browser displays the image so I cannot see a reason for the URL to fail. I have looked at the YouTube video on using Zoompast but it only mentions how to add images manually. Have I missed a setting on Zoompast?

I will e-mail you domain name

Uploading that media to ZoomPast worked Ok for me.

It is critical that you include the full URL including http:// in the File: box of the Media record:
http://www.<domain>.co.uk/test2/images/sandy murray wings ceremony.jpg
It does not matter whether you use literal space characters or %20 between words.

The Format: box is unimportant and worked for me with either jpg or url

Just like FH Diagrams the ZoomPast trees only support one Media image per Individual record.
Source Citation images are not supported.

Thanks Mike. Adding http:// to the File records fixed it.

It's a very impressive gedcom viewer. I read in their intro that they may have a commercial version in the future. If they allowed upload of images to their server and multiple images per individual I would certainly consider a paid subscription.
