map life facts

Post by Ron Melby »

Glenwood City Cemetery, 282-298 Memorial Drive, Glenwood, MN, 56334, USA

actually gives the place coordinates for:

101-153 W Oak St, Glenwood City, WI 54013

there are a slug of others, when I put the first address into google maps it gets me much closer as a partial.
is there something I can do to make these addresses more accurate?

Firstly, using Glenwood Cemetery works fine, i.e. leave out City

Alternatively, since you have the full address of 282-298 Memorial Drive, Glenwood, MN, 56334, USA then enclose the "Glenwood City Cemetery" part in string quotes to tell the geocoder to ignore that name.

With Glenwood City Cemetery, 282-298 Memorial Drive, Glenwood, MN, 56334, USA it still plotted in Glenwood, MN but further north in 6th Ave NW. Leave out any one of City or 282-298 or Memorial Drive, or Glenwood, and it plots correctly. You sometimes have to experiment like that.

It only plotted in W Oak St, Glenwood City, Wisconsin if I used Glenwood City, USA ?
So I have no idea how you got it to plot there.

The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) lists two cemeteries named Glenwood in Minnesota.
  • Feature Name ID Class County State Latitude Longitude Ele(ft) Map BGN Date Entry Date
  • Glenwood Cemetery 644186 Cemetery Blue Earth MN 440920N 0935855W 991 Mankato East - 11-JAN-1980
  • Glenwood Cemetery 644187 Cemetery Pope MN 453810N 0952250W 1243 Glenwood - 11-JAN-1980
I haven't used the mapping features in FH. Can we enter the Latitude and Longitude if we have it from sources like GNIS?
