ADDR and PLAC, its a pain.

in my addr, I put ie.
Mazeppa, Mazeppa, Waabasha, MN, USA
in place I put
123 Beacon Street, Mazeppa, MN, 56566

the little calculator box, comes up when I click on it and I can reverse it. there is a reverse plugin
ithere is a slosh around plugin for places by tatewise, move to fields something. There areg geocoding plugins.

And there are some plugins and things that make you think, gee...........MAP:LAT:LONG

I cant figure out how that one works.
Anyhow, do they work on the same field?

which work on place, or address or both?
in any case, I see that many work on @_PLAC which is nearly useless.

So, the current problem, beside the geocoding is to have a reverse ADDR and even a reverse PLAC that coalesces all the addresses of each kind and the PLAC of each kind, even as separate operations, so that I can drill down wherI see a US, MN, Wabasha, Mazeppa, Mazeppa (or whatever) and fix it

Try the menu item Tools > Work with Data > Places (or Addresses)

Not perfect but it does allow reverse ordering and can be sorted on any column

That doesn't actually fix the place in the indi record, which is what I want to do.

Yes Ron, you appear to have the Place and Address fields the opposite way round from normal.

Conventionally, the Place holds the district/town/county where the fact occurred, the Address holds the postal street address, but some users like to put the entire Address & Place in the Place field so it can be geocoded, and leave the Address field empty.

Auto-geocoding of MAP-LATI/LONG within FH works only on Place names, but the Map Life Facts Plugin can also use the Address to plot in external maps.

The Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin can reorganise the Address and Place fields globally, or selectively using its Input Filter tab.

That plugin still doesn't do what, i need, I need every ADDR or ever PLAC (the real ones from the records in reverse order), so that I can fix the actual field itself in the INDI.

in the actual INDI.PLAC or INDI.ADDR fields.
does the plugin do that? Near as I can tell from the plugin, the MAPLATLONG are stored in separata files, which are based on the @_PLAC fields, which are based on and built from the INDI.PLAC records, so if the INDI.PLAC records are not correct......we haven't got it sorted and cannot get it sorted.
And I don't believe I have the ability to determine where the actual records in error exist in the file.

there are more complex cases, but insofar as I see, there is no utility to do exactly that.

The rearrange addr and place parts hasnt worked the way I want for that issue, which is separate, and that is to have the commas lined up for my max jurisdictions, I have messed it up a couple times already. I know there is a way, but that bit of usability and familiarization will wait, until I have a great deal of time and a file to practice on and all my fields in better shape.

In WW Data for Both Places and Addresses, editing a Place or Address or merging them will change all occurrences in the database, so if the Place is used 50 times all 50 will be changed.

The same is true if you write a plugin which works on the PLAC records.

Are you wanting to reverse the data in all the Place and Address fields or are some one way and some the other?

A plugin to simply reverse them all would be fairly simple, or you could do one which could take the contents of the clipboard and reverse comma separated data and put in back in the clipboard for pasting if not all your data is in backwards.

The Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin can reverse the order of the comma separated parts.
That is one of the functions it was designed to do.
It can either work on every Address and Place or just a selected subset.
It takes care of INDI...PLAC connection to the _PLAC records.

What it cannot do is merge several Address or Place fields into one.
However, as Jane says, that can be done via Tools > Work With Data > Addresses/Places.
