OK, but do cater for default path on 32-bit PC as C:\\Program Files\\Family Historian\\program\\fh.exe

So Plugin needs to test if C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Family Historian\\program\\fh.exe exists and if not, then test if C:\\Program Files\\Family Historian\\program\\fh.exe exists.

Sure. When I ran the plug-in, I got the error message Family Historian not found!

The path to the Family Historian executable is C:\Program Files (x86)\Family Historian\Program\FH.exe

I wonder if FH needs to be reinstalled to correct the Windows Registry entry?

Mmmaybe, but it seems like the program is working fine in every other respect, so I'm not inclined to mess with it.

What version of Windows are you running? (Vista, 7, 8.1, 10, and is it 32-bit or 64-bit)

Teri, that all looks normal, and the later version of the Plugin won't now complain.

Thanks, Mike. I got that. I just modified the earlier version of the plug-in so it wouldn't look in the registry for the path, but would use the path I gave it. Easy-peasy – even I could do it! Now both versions work fine.

Is there any way it could open fh showing the Facts tab for the person?
Being able to open the complete person record (the fh Facts tab) directly without a further click is something people miss who have come in from TMG.

As I said earlier there are only options for selecting the file, record and either Focus or Records Window.

I have my various research projects spread across a number of project files.

It would be very useful to have a link in a FH diagram box to take you to a person in another project file. For instance in my US research file to be able to add a link in an immigrant's details back to the individual or their family in the country of origin (in a different project file).

Is this add in using the sort of tricks that might be adapted to do this?

David, the .CMD file can be added via a Media record and executed in the usual way any non-image file can be invoked by double-clicking its icon or using the Open Editor/Player triangular button it the Edit Media Item dialogue.

So from a Diagram or elsewhere, opening a Property Box for the Media record, or its entry on the Media tab of an Individual or Source record Property Box, would eventually allow another instance of FH to be opened with the target Individual in focus.

Very nice Jane. It's fills the hole left by FH's inability to return to the 'last viewed' individual. BTW...while the plugin is in the store, it didn't appear in the 'Recent Plugin' lists.

Having it in the Tools menu one can do this with 3 clicks.

Ron, in my experience, it often takes a while for new Plugins to appear in all the appropriate lists.
Sometimes a browser refresh helps to clear its local cache.

BTW, what is particularly attractive in your Create Individual Shortcut is the option to either overwrite to a single shortcut, or to save named individual shortcuts. Well done.

Brings up a question on new posts. If I use forum's Quick Links Unread Posts, this new plugin discussion doesn't appear. Yet if I do New Posts, the topics appear. Why not in the Unread Posts? I find the New Posts cycles out after a bit, and if I don't visit the forum regularly, I might miss the latest posts. Likely I'm missing something, or perhaps this is a browser caching issue. This post likely belongs elsewhere, sorry.

Sorry but what is the .CMD file? I think I understand the rest. That the clickable link then resides in the media folder of the individual.

I think I could use this - I too have multiple projects and have a problem when someone from a family history (personal genealogy) Project crops up also in a large place study Project.
I currently dont enter them in the Place study at all, just remember they are lurking elsewhere. But if I want to query my data in a Project, I dont get the full figures if some people are missing. This would be great for cross referencing two or three people.

The .CMD file is the link created on the Desktop and often named Launch Family Historian.cmd

You would probably do better to use the Individually named alternative, and when you create the Media record use the option to copy it into your Project's Media folder.

This may be unrealistic, but what if there was a setting in the Quick Launch Plugin, so that, if set, only 1 click in the Tools, and the short cut is created to the current record, unless it is altered. Or, anytime one exits FH, a quick launch to the last viewed record was always created, overwriting the current one. That would be the closest to an FH built-in auto-remembering w/o any action by the user.

For now, I've kludged one modified copy of the lua script which, essentially skips the dialog box, and with one click, creates a quick launch to the record in view at the time (static). I also created a 2nd modified copy which creates a named shortcut (dynamic) if I wish to create more than one shortcut link. Both skip the confirmation box as well. I know, may be considered lazy to skip a few keystrokes.
