Geocoding

Post by Ron Melby » 18 Dec 2016 22:05

there are many threads and knoledgebase entires on geocoding. I cannot find an automatic geocoding (putting in lat and long when it knows the PLAC) anywhere. I have tried the map life events with the result set of all individuals but after a couple hundred not found and have to click ok, and it does not quit, with no more information, that doesnt seem to be what I am looking for. I finally had to kill it.

My typical place looks like:

(addr1, addr2), Town, Township, County, State, Country

that is most of my PLACs do not have an addr1 or addr2.

So, in English the commons are:

PLAC Mazeppa, Mazeppa, Wabasha, MN, US
PLAC , Mazeppa, Wabasha, MN, US
PLAC Bethersden, , Kent, England, ENG
PLAC 125 Yadda Yadda ave, Box Blah Blah Blah, , Norstag, McKenzie, ND, US
I am using 2 iso for in US and 3 iso out.

Wherein lay what must be my (usual) multiple problems?

Apparently you did not find the Map Life Facts Plugin.
It is listed 6th in the http://www.family-historian.co.uk/plugi ... ed-plugins.
It is listed next to Map Life Events in http://www.family-historian.co.uk/plugi ... ll-plugins.
In the Knowledge Base a Search for geocode or geocoding leads you to plugins:help:map_life_facts:map_life_facts|> Map Life Facts.
Check its plugins:help:map_life_facts:the_faq|> Frequently Asked Questions and it explains How can V6 Place Records be synchronised with Plugin Locations.
Its plugins:help:map_life_facts:smart_geocoding|> Smart Geocoding includes ISO 3166-1 Alpha-3 Country Codes and U.S. Postal Service State Abbreviations.

It immediately correctly geocoded all your examples:-
Mazeppa, Mazeppa, Wabasha, MN, US
, Mazeppa, Wabasha, MN, US
Bethersden, , Kent, England, ENG
, McKenzie, ND, US
