backup and restore

Post by jbrooks » 28 Jul 2016 19:07

I have run the two plugins "check and repair media" and the "backup and restore" with backup option on lap top. I will transfer these to my desktop that has a full backup regime of its own using Acronis (also used to backup laptop disk).

I do have two media files not found but can fix that later.

I have some Q's.

1. from the screen shots below has it worked; looks like it to me?
2. if I use plugin restore onto desktop and also the FH created full zip (created on each exit) have I captured everything?
3. how can I make the plugin run on each FH exit (did not see an option in the plugin)?

Easy to use plugins Mike.

It is unlikely that you will actually benefit from the Check and Repair Media Links Plugin with FH V6.2 because it has its own built in Media repair mechanisms. This Plugin was more useful in earlier FH versions.
In Tools > External File Links there is the new Auto Repair Links button, as well as the Re-Map and Edit buttons, and between them most problems can be quickly fixed.
In the Media Window for broken links there is a new File Not Found search feature.

Regarding the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin:
  1. Yes, it all looks OK. I see you set Enable Diagnostic Mode to inspect the Command Prompt messages.
I notice you have enabled Utilise Dated Sub-folders so check the Help & Advice on that feature.
  2. Yes, you have captured all the FH Project related data, media, and settings.
(As long as all your Media files are within the Project folder and not lurking elsewhere.)
Don't forget an Installation Archive for your FH Installation Media and Licence Details.
  3. Unfortunately, there is no way to run any Plugins other than via the Tools menu.
You know you can add Plugin shortcuts to the Tools menu?

thanks Mike,

Re points:-

2. I purchased the CD and have license keys stored.
3. Plugins installed themselves into "tools" menu so will have to remember to run.

Many thanks Jonathan.

RE:
3. In Tools > Plugins > More>>, with any Plugin selected, tick the Add to Tools Menu option.
Then that Plugin will appear directly on the Tools menu and thus quicker to run.
So for Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin the shortcut keys Alt T B will run that Plugin.

Cool that worked after ticking box and selecting new.

So now when I exit I will do a save, save diagram and run the plugin, which is fine. Potentially a new requirement there e.g. "save everything".

I am getting into this now and into my 20 C data with some interesting results on the diagram; that is for later.

Kind regards Jonathan.
