Backup&Restore FH Settings plugin with Hardlinks in Dropbox

Post by GladToBeGrey » 09 Apr 2016 20:32

Does the plugin have an option to backup/restore ONLY the registry settings/customisations?

I ask because I'm considering using LSE Hardlinks with Dropbox to sync all the file-based settings. In that scenario, only the registry-based settings/customisations would need to be manually transferred/sync'd between machines.

I have to admit I am a little surprised you have not used the Plugin before or tried it to find out.
It always backs-up everything, but there is an option to only restore the Registry Data Keys.

However, there is a limitation that is beyond my control and mentioned in the Help & Advice > FAQ:
"When copying folders the Plugin will fail if the folder contains 'hard links'. This is unlikely to be a major problem, because ƒh data folders do not contain 'hard links'. This limitation is in the LUA Filing System library."
I am not sure exactly what form the failure takes, but if it simply does not backup the files then that won't worry you.
Perhaps you can let me know what happens, and if necessary, I may be able to mitigate the effect in the Plugin..

Just make sure that ALL the requisite folders are synchronised via DropBox.
The Plugin Help & Advice explains which folders it preserves.
