Re: Export Gedcom File (TNG)

One FH export plugin (and FH's native export) quirk I noticed today. FH outputs out all FILE pathnames with all parts capitalized, even though the actual media folder might be lowercase. This might seem insignificant, but there is a part of the TNG import process that, depending on some parameters, matches the gedcom folder name to the TNG folder name in a case-sensitively. Most TNG folders are lower-case.

As far as I can tell, the exported Gedcom will mimic exactly your master Gedcom _FILE paths.
So wherever those paths came from, they were imported/entered capitalised.

So if you want all lowercase then use Tools > External File Links and Edit each folder name.
However, I discovered you can't simply alter the capital to lowercase, but must use two steps:
1) Use Edit and change to a folder name that does not exist.
2) Use Edit again and enter the lowercase folder name.

FH & Windows appear to be case insensitive regarding file paths.

Works great! Hope it didn't take too much trial/error to get the Edit sequence that worked. I wouldn't have stumbled on that.

Thanks Again, Mike.

An FYI for Family Historian users who also Export to TNG. Updated over the weekend to TNG 11.0, and, except for one small glitch which the TNG author quickly patched, successfully exported entire FH gedcom using Mike Tate's Gedcom Export (TNG option) plugin. No other issues related to the import into TNG. :)
