These work great! Now if I add the _FLGS type to TNG do you know if TNG understands that it means living? I'm going to try it anyway so I guess I'll find out.
I'll also try the _USED by adding it too.

Re: A couple Export Gedcom File questions
Thanks, those screenshots are good, but I have one comment.
I read somewhere that there is a general Multimedia folder.
Yes, it is in http://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php/Media about halfway down under Store files in: Multimedia Folder / Collection Folder.
So would it be better to set the fist five Folder paths to multimedia instead of photos?
It is more consistent with the FH Media folder, and does not imply the files are PHOTOS.
Regarding Flags, just remember TNG only allows one per Individual, whereas FH allows as many as you like.
Is there a convenient screenshot for those UTF-8, CENS, _FLGS, _USED settings?
Yes, the confict of interest between PLACe and ADDRess fields is now worse due to geocoding features on PLACe but not ADDRess in several products including FH and TNG. See glossary:places|> Places and Addresses for background and many Forum Posts.
Also don't overlook how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.

Re: A couple Export Gedcom File questions
I've updated the screen shots and added additional ones.
The only comment I have is just a note about the multimedia folder. By default during the install TNG creates a folder called "media" which is where audio and video files are usually stored. Using multimedia requires that the user select the "create folder" button on the right to create a new folder called "multimedia". Nothing wrong with that just wanted to let you know about the extra step.
First 3 images are attached. 3 more in the next post. [Attachments now deleted]

Re: A couple Export Gedcom File questions
Would it be better and simpler to use the existing media folder?
I only chose multimedia because that was mentioned in the web-page I found, and your Paths and Folders screen-shot shows Multimedia Folder:, so I assumed that was the default folder name.
If the existing media folder is used, are the Media >> Add New Media settings required?
When I have captured what I need from the screen-shots, I will let you know and you can delete them.
See plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:tng_the_next_generation#import_details|> Export Gedcom File ~ (TNG) The Next Generation > Import Details.
If these are OK then you can delete your attached screen-shots.

Re: A couple Export Gedcom File questions
I just thought that using "media" a default it would be less complicated.
I've never used or changed the Media >> Add New Media settings. I just played with it a bit and it appears as though the collection specified is the folder that the uploaded media is stored. The default, would then put a document in the document folder. If you select the multimedia radio button then the folder specified for multimedia would be displayed when you select a location for the file.
In my case since I have changed all the folders to use one then I get the same folder no matter which radio button is pick.
So if you set the folders to the same folder the radio button shouldn't matter.
The KB looks good.
I've attached another screen shot that uses a "media" folder.

OK, lets go with media for the time being.
Could you post the CENS, _FLGS & _USED screen shots please.
The quota limit has been increased 10-fold so should have no problem adding Attachments

I have attached, CENS, _FLGS and _USED.
One note, When I setup _Used I just typed "Nick" but "Nickname" is displayed on the individuals page.

Re: A couple Export Gedcom File questions
Thank you for those screen-shots, but I have a couple of comments.
The _USED tag is not for a Nickname but for the Given Name Used.
I suspect TNG is expanding Nick to Nickname because it matches the standard NICK tag name.
Note that there is also a standard GIVN tag for Given Name.
The _FLGS tag will accept any Flag Name not just Living flag.
So I suspect Display: should be set to Flag.
Could you experiment and check please.
It would be useful to have a screen-shot for setting a Custom Attribute using this same settings page.
Could you post some screen-shots of how the GEDCOM file & Media files are actually imported to TNG.
Thanks.

Re: A couple Export Gedcom File questions
Hi Mike,
I tested the _FLGS and the private and living are working. As you said you can have both.
I also changed the _USED to Given Name Used which is appearing properly for the individual.
Attached are a few more screen shots.
The fourth attachment is in the next post.

Re: A couple Export Gedcom File questions
Thanks Ron, they look good, but I have a few questions. Sorry to be a nuisance.
Please see plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:tng_the_next_generation#import_details|> Export Gedcom File ~ (TNG) The Next Generation > Import Details to see how I have used the screen-shots.
Previously, the CENS, _USED, and _FLGS tags were set using Custom Event Types > Edit Existing Event Types.
But this time they seem to be using Custom Event Types > Add New Event Type.
Is this because you are creating a new database, and so this latter option would normally be used for the first import?
The Import/Export > GEDCOM Import screen-shot appears to be importing From web site instead of From your computer.
Which would a new user typically use and why?
There are tick options for Accept data for all new Custom Event Types and Import Custom Event Types only.
Are these useful for importing Custom Events (EVEN + TYPE tag) without needing to preconfigure the Custom Event Types > Add New Event Type settings?
You have included an Add New > Media File screen-shot.
Is this significant/necessary if all Media are imported using the Import media if present tick option in Import/Export > GEDCOM Import?
If any of your answers change for the best advice for a new user, then please post new screen-shots.

Re: A couple Export Gedcom File questions
Hi Mike,
No problem, sorry for the delays, life keeps getting in the way
The KB looks Good.
The item "and set Import file name only" is the default setting so they wouldn't really have to change it unless they've been playing around.
Accept data for all new Custom Event Types
Your GEDCOM file might contain events that TNG considers as "Custom" events. Normally, new Custom Event Types included in a GEDCOM file are entered into the database, but the data is set to be ignored. You would need to change the status of a Custom Event Type to "Accept" in order for events of that type to be imported (in other words, you would need to import your file twice). If you check this option, TNG will automatically set all new Custom Event Types to "Accept", and all your events will be imported the first time.
Import Custom Event Types Only (no data is added, replaced or appended)
Checking this option will cause only Custom Event Types to be imported (see Admin/Custom Event Types). All other data is ignored. This is an ideal option to select during your initial setup, as it will allow you to see which custom events you have in your gedcom. You can then select which ones to accept and which ones to ignore before importing your entire database.
Here's the help info for the gedcom media import tick.
Import media if present
If your GEDCOM contains links to media, selecting this option will allow TNG to import them and set up the appropriate links. You must still copy the physical files associated with these links to the appropriate folders on your site via other means (e.g., FTP). If you do not want to import any media links, make sure this box is not checked prior to performing the import.
TNG doesn't appear to be the best at handing incremental updates to existing data via gedcom imports. Probably because the intent was to have it as your main db after the initial import. As an example if you were to remove a media item in FH (or any other program) and then re-import a gedcom the record will still be in the db table even though you selected to delete all data and re-import. I had to write a module to check and remove orphaned links in the db after each import as I was seeing duplicate links on media that didn't go anywhere after multiple imports.
Currently since I'm updating a lot a of media and sources in FH I will need to clear the tree in TNG, and re-upload all media or I end up with thumbs pointing to the incorrect photos and links that don't belong on some media. This is only because I'm redoing a lot of data. Once done and I'm mainly just adding new data and media I should be able to just do incremental updates.
I'm running a test instance of TNG here which is using a FH export.

The reason I included the "Add New Event Type" screen-shot was because you had asked for a screen-shot of setting up a new attribute. I had previously sent one from when I was editing an existing attribute. But this time they seem to be using Custom Event Types > Add New Event Type.
Is this because you are creating a new database, and so this latter option would normally be used for the first import?
I find that when you have a large gedcom file it can time out on a web upload. I use FTP to upload my gedcom and all media files. With 3,200 media files I find ftp to me more suitable (multiple sessions) and I can just upload new files as needed this way.The Import/Export > GEDCOM Import screen-shot appears to be importing From web site instead of From your computer.
Which would a new user typically use and why?
I'm going to paste the help file info here since what I had type wasn't as good. There are tick options for Accept data for all new Custom Event Types and Import Custom Event Types only.

Not really significant. This screen-shot was for your request for a screen-shot for how Media files are imported into TNG. This would be adding a single media item to your tree. You have included an Add New > Media File screen-shot.
Is this significant/necessary if all Media are imported using the Import media if present tick option in Import/Export > GEDCOM Import?

If I come across anything else I'll be sure to pass it on. I'm still working on cleaning and converting sources, editing images etc.
