Show Project Statistics - Marriage Status

Post by johnmorrisoniom » 29 Oct 2014 09:28

Hi Mike,
Using the error set produced by the plugin, I have been wading through the reported Marriage errors. I have recently noticed , however, that if the Marriage status is set to Divorced or Unknown (With no Date), then these marriages still appear in the result set as errors.

Thank you for the feedback John.
Firstly, the Plugin is only reporting possibly unusual 'exceptions' that may need correcting, and once those you consider need fixing have been fixed, then that particular class of 'exception' can be hidden. They can easily be shown again at any time, without even updating the statistics.

I suspect you are inspecting just the Main tab Spouse pane at the base of the Property Box. This only gives a summary of the Family Events and Status. The Date is nothing to do with the Status. The associated Family Record gives a clearer picture with the Status separated from the Facts.

The Status = Divorced is an odd one, because the Divorce Filed and Divorce Events are far better, even if the Event Date is very approximate. Also, if there was a Divorce, there must have been a Marriage Event again perhaps with a very approximate Date. So I took the view that with Status = Divorced there should be a Marriage Event. I could have gone further and reported a missing Divorce Event.

The Status = Unknown with no Marr: Date is also a bit odd. What does it mean that is different from leaving the Status blank? If it is major problem I could add that in with the Unmarried Couple and Never Married cases.

Hi Mike,
For my purposes, setting the status to unknown, signifies that I have tried very hard to find a marriage fact for the couple, but have not succeeded.

In a while I will revisit the status unknown entries, and have another look.

On some USA census entries, Divorced is an option for status , so if shown I usually set, even if I do not know the marriage date.

I actually have one US lady who was married 5 times, with 1,3, & 5 being the same man.

I shall leave the Unknown Status as is for the moment.

For the Divorce Status case you must know that the Marriage and Divorce were Before the Census Date and After the Coming of Age Date, so that could be entered, or the Dates left blank. I think the Exception Report serves as a useful reminder to research those Family Events.

With multiple marriages to the same person I suspect you know that they can be entered in two ways:
(1) Enter all the Marriage & Divorce Events in the same Family Record.
(2) Create a separate Family Record for each Marriage & Divorce pair.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info.
I have the multiple marriages entered as (2), It is the only way AS will do it.
