AS Plug in v 4.1
My AS data Entry plug in (v 4.1) only opens AS V 3.2.3, even though I have v 4.0.1 installed.
It starts off OK, showing that it tis V 4.1, and the type of data which can be input, but when I select Death entries I get
"The source type specified ..........DEATH is not valid. Only CENSUS and BAPTISM are recognised"
How do I get around this?

Re: AS Plug in v 4.1
AS 4 should have installed "Over" 3.2.3 so you should not have 2 versions installed (Unless 1 is 32 bit and 1 is 64 bit).
I would backup your settings, then uninstall both versions, then reinstall AS 4 and finally restore your settings.

Re: AS Plug in v 4.1
I have moved this posting to the Plugin Discussions which is more appropriate.
Can you confirm the Plugin window looks like the one shown in plugins:help:ancestral_sources_data_entry:ancestral_sources_data_entry|> Ancestral Sources Data Entry Plugin.
If so, then Ancestral Sources V4.0.1 is almost certainly installed, but if AS V3.2.3 can be run by the Plugin then that earlier version must still be installed too, which is confusing the Plugin.
As John says, I suspect you have the 64-bit version of one, and the 32-bit version of the other.
The Plugin remembers where the earlier one is installed, and assumes earlier versions will be overwritten by later versions, but that is not the case if you change from 32-bit to 64-bit or vice versa..
Please check to see if the following two folder locations both exist with AS files:
C:\Program Files\Ancestral Sources\ . . . . . . . This is the 64-bit version
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ancestral Sources\ . . This is the 32-bit version
If so then use Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall Ancestral Sources Version 3.2.3.
In the meantime a quick fix is to use the Plugin Restore Defaults button.
(BUT both versions of AS will remain installed until you resolve that problem.)

Re: AS Plug in v 4.1
I have a new PC and installed AS4.0.1 x64 when I got it. I have checked and I don't have the 32 bit version on the PC (at least I can't find it in Program Files x86 and it doesn't show in Programs & Features).
I have just uninstalled AS and when I run the plug in I get the screen with all the various items on it (as per the KB page) although it now says - in purple - "This Plugin runs the Ancestral Source application. The later version 4.0.1 is available for download."
After reinstalling AS4.0.1, I run the plug in and it finds v3.2.3 again.

Re: AS Plug in v 4.1
That is very strange.
The Plugin does NOT install or un-install AS, and never has, so AS V3.2.3 must exist on your PC somewhere, because the Plugin is finding it and running it.
If AS V3.2.3 is not installed in the conventional Program Files path, and is not listed in Programs and Features, then it has somehow got copied onto your PC.
Can you give any explanation how this might have happened?
Is it a brand new PC or a second hand PC?
What have you copied from your old PC?
To find out where the AS V3.2.3 executable resides check the following file contents:
C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugin Data\Ancestral Sources Data Entry.dat
Open this file using a plain text editor such as Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad and it will show:
ASVer=4.0.1
TATE7-Files=C:\Program Files\Ancestral Sources\Ancestral Sources.exe
That second line will give the file path to the AS V3.2.3 executable.
If the folder also contains unins000.exe then run it to uninstall AS V3.2.3.
Alternatively, just delete the entire folder.
Please let us know what you discover.
Another workaround is to use the Plugin Restore Defaults button.

Re: AS Plug in v 4.1
It is a brand new PC with W7HP x64. Thinking back, I loaded FH from CD's - I have V3 plus the updates to V5. I used the FH KB reinstallation flow chart to do that.
I downloaded the plugin when it was V4 and, from memory, that worked. It was after I downloaded V4.1 to include Deaths and Burials that I came upon this problem. Note that if I just open AS from the desktop that everything works perfectly.
I have just followed your instructions, found the uninstall file and run it.
I cannot think why it is there, unless it is from the CD's
I will now download ASv4.0.1. through the plugin.
OK - I initially downloaded the programme to a selected folder (NOT Program Files) and the plugin didn't work. I then moved it to Program Files and it did!
This may have been my problem - does the plugin find it wherever it is on the PC?
Anyway, thanks Mike, and I am learning a lot about the innards of my computer.

Re: AS Plug in v 4.1
Roger, if the Plugin V4.0 worked but Death & Burial were NOT enabled (before you had installed AS V4.0.1) then you must have downloaded & installed AS V3.2.3 as instructed by the Plugin.
There is no other way it could have worked. AS is not included on the FH CD's.
The Plugin does look in several places on the PC to discover where AS is installed, because some users install AS in unusual places.
In which folder did you discover the 'uninstall' file?
I am concerned about your statement: "I then moved it to Program Files and it did!".
You should NOT MOVE the AS Download, you must double-click the AncestralSources64bit_4_0_1.exe downloaded file to install AS correctly.
This is similar to installing any other downloaded program.
Is this perhaps where you have sometimes been going wrong with AS?
Anyway, I am glad it is all sorted out now.
BTW:
To install FH you only need to use the V4 to V5 Upgrade. You DO NOT need to install V3 and V4 at all.

Re: AS Plug in v 4.1
Mike, I found the 'uninstall' in C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugin Data\Ancestral Sources Data Entry.dat as you suggested.
Everything appears to be working as it should.
Thanks
Roger
