Duplicate facts
I think there must be a gremlin at work because I have suddenly noticed certain facts being duplicated for an individual but I have no recollection of doing a copy and paste. A residence fact, an adoption fact, a marriage fact are suddenly duplicated.
I have seen queries for checking for duplicate sources but is there a query I can run to check all records for duplicated facts within each record?

Have you been doing any merges lately?
Checking for duplicate facts is possible with a plugin, but I don't think you could easily do it with queries.
Are you duplicates 100% identical in all fields and source information?

Try this Duplicate Facts Plugin.
[EDIT: Link removed as no longer working and superseded by V1.3.]
It should produce a Result Set of duplicated Facts.

Thanks Mike. The plugin also flagged up some records where there was no obvious duplication so I need to investigate what is happening there.
Yes, Jane, the facts were complete duplicates in every respect. I would only expecct this to happen if I had used copy and paste so I am a bit unclear how it happened. I have used the project to create a new one via the main menu in FH. I have also uploaded the ged gile to Ancestry and imported it into FTM so I can use MyCanvas but would not have expected the ged file to be changed as a result of any of these.

I put the Plugin together very quickly, so it may not be quite correct in all respects. I will do a bit more testing.

Try this new version of the Duplicate Facts Plugin.
[EDIT: Link removed as no longer working and superseded by V1.3.]
It checks more data related to a Fact such as 1st Source citation, Entry Date, and Assessment.

Mike,
Seemed like a good plugin to have so I downloaded it and gave it a try. It found some actual duplicates which I have cleaned up. It also found one that seems like it is not a duplicate.
Here is what the plugin shows:

Here is what the facts tab in the property box shows:

Here is what the all tab shows:

Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Bill

Bill, can you check you have the latest version.
In the Plugins window it should have Details Provided by Plugin with Version: 1.1, etc, whereas earlier version had no details.
If it is V1.1, what is displayed if you double-click on the Duplicated Fact Marriage Fact?

Hi Mike,
It is version 1.1.
Do you mean if I click on the 'Duplicate Fact' column? It takes me to the Facts tab for Jerry Colin Gaard as I posted above.
Thanks,
Bill

I must admit I am mystified, but try this version 1.2 of the Duplicate Facts Plugin.
[EDIT: Link removed as no longer working and superseded by V1.3.]
If it still reports the duplicate, then:
(1) Right-click on Original Fact entry and choose Locate in All Tab.
(2) Right-click on Duplicate Fact entry and choose Locate in All Tab.
Do these both locate the same Fact, or what?

Mike,
I don't see Original Fact. Here is what I see:

Also, plugin still shows 1.1, but I'm guessing you didn't update the number?
Thanks,
Bill

Try download again, as SkyDrive links are a bit slow to update.
It should be V1.2 with the Owner and two columns of Facts.

Duplicate facts
Hi Mike,
No... they are different. one is Record ID 1752 and one is 1753.

It looks like 1752 is the bad one... not linked to anyone. I'll poke around a bit, but I can probably just delete it. I just created it a few days ago, but can't remember what I did.
Nice catch by the plugin!!
Thanks,
Bill

Now I can see how the Plugin finds that duplication.
However, it is a complete fluke, due to the adjacent Family Records and the first Record having no Husband nor Wife fields.
Any other arrangement would not find the duplication, and they are NOT duplicated in the same Record, which was the original search requirement.
I have updated the Plugin to V1.3 to correct this misbehaviour.
Download via same link as above.

So, does this point up the need for another plugin... Unlinked Facts?

It is not an Unlinked Fact but an Unlinked Family Record.
It has no Parents nor Children linked to it.
Those are highlighted by the Show Project Statistics Plugin as No Parents Family without Children.

Mike,
Right you are. What is really weird is that there is also no husband and wife. I wonder how in the world I managed to create a family record not linked to anyone.

Perhaps you started adding a spouse, and a Marriage, and then unlinked the Spouse Family.
That leaves the Family Record behind with the Marriage Fact.

OK... must be what I did.
I must be going blind in my old age... where do I find No Parents Family without Children in the Show Project Statistics plugin. I can't seem to find that.

Many thanks Mike. I have updated to v1.3.
One minor point, it only works if the duplicated facts are adjacent. Nevertheless, it is very useful for tidying up a project.

Simon if you run the reorder out of sequence facts before you run it all your duplicates should be together.

Simon, yes, any duplicate Facts must have the same Date field value (perhaps blank), so they must be adjacent once sorted.
Bill, No Parents Family without Children is related to the No Parents for Couples and appears in the Result Set Exception Report when you close the Plugin.
Check the Help & Advice for Result Set.
I will be away over Easter so I am signing off for a while.

Mike,
OK... found it and 156 more. I can't believe I would have unlinked 157 spouses like this. Maybe it came over this way from my old genealogy program when I imported the info and I just never noticed.
In any case, thanks much for the plugin. It helped me identify all these problems.
